Show MARRIOTT-SLATERVILLE CITY COUNCIL REPORT FOR FEB 2006 By Joyce VanTassell City council discusses special service district Marriott-Slaterville's city council met on Feb. 16 and approved two business licenses but tabled the Stone Castle business and referred it to the planning commission. The council accepted the Big W subdivision. The council next discussed how to budget for the special service district, which includes four subdivisions. They will be provided with services that are not available in other parts of Marriott-Slaterville, such as street lighting, open space maintenance, public areas and secondary water. The residents of the special service will also pay for these services. The council discussed the difference between operating costs and maintenance costs. Plans are for operating costs to be paid with a utility fee and maintenance costs to be paid for with another fee. Planning Commission swears in new commissioners Marriott-Slaterville's Planning Commission met on Feb. 21 and introduced and swore in three new commissioners Mike Hunsaker, Don Lassen and Kent Schofield. Les Syme was reappointed as commission chair, with Kent Meyerhoffer again serving as vice chair for the 2006 year. The commission next listened to a presentation by Darrell Eddington who is the Lower Weber River watershed coordinator. He explained his responsibility to look for areas in the watershed that need attention and also his duty to help communities consider the impact community growth can have on water quality in the area. His current focus is on problems that may arise from storm water runoff and agricultural practices. The commission next discussed a sign approved by staff for outdoor advertising by Saunders Advertising at 750 N. 2000 W. Bill Morris, city administrator, noted that at present the city's sign ordinance provides for building inspectors to approve or disapprove site plans for businesses under 1000 square feet and notify the commission of their actions. Morris noted that the city is in the process of redrafting the sign ordinance, so this policy may change in the future. City Officials Keep Busy |
