Youth Council by Sierra Flores, Youth Council Four of the Youth Council members in our community attended the Local Officials' Day at the Legislature on January 18, 2006. It was a great learning experience for all of us who attended. There were may interesting speakers and presentations such as Kerri Nakamura, a budget analyst. She discussed issues relating to public health care, education, and taxes. Her presentation made me realize the importance of being informed of what is going on in government. Another presentation by Dr. Lonise Bias was very educational. She addressed how youth can stay motivated, exercise inner-strength, and expressed how love and happiness are essential in life. She discussed how self-respect and good judgment will help youth keep away from negative peer pressure and illegal drugs. We also had lunch with elected officials and legislators. I, personally, am grateful to participate in this activity. It was amazing. I thank the Utah League of Cities and Towns and Marriott-Slaterville City for making this event possible.
