Show There were smiles and congratulations at the city offices with the birth of Chandler William Morris, son of City Administrator William Morris and his wife Erin. The much anticipated birth was on June 10, 2006, and baby, mother (and father) are doing well. We congratulate Lee and Pearl Stanger who celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Mayor Keith Butler and his wife Jeri celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in April 2006. Keith and Marilynne Slater reached the milestone of their 50th wedding anniversary on October 5, 2006. They celebrated the occasion with friends and family at an open house on October 4, held at the Marriott-Slaterville City Hail. The death of Martin B. Moore, Jr., Weber County Surveyor, was noted by Mayor Keith Butter. Mr. Moore was of great service to our fledgling city when he surveyed and set the legal boundaries for our incorporation, at no cost to the community. Our condolences go to his family. Residents were cautioned about the danger of letting strangers into their homes. An incident, which fortunately turned out well, occurred with one of our feisty more mature widows (Lois Butler). A young man came to her door selling subscriptions to magazines for service men. He, apparently in considerable discomfort, asked to use her bathroom. She let him inside; he used the bathroom and left. She noticed that her purse was gone from the stand where it had been laying. Her health has not been the best recently, and she walks with a cane, but the missing purse really raised her ire. As quickly as possible, she hurried outside and called to the young man down the street to "bring her purse back." He headed back, telling her that her purse was in the bathroom. She insisted he wait. She went in and found the purse, but the money was gone. She had just come from the grocery store and knew the amount of money she had in her purse. Demanding her money back, he reached in his pocket and pulled out some bills. "That's not all of it. I know how much I had," she said. Eventually he returned it all and he left with the admonition following him, "don't try that again on anyone here." A great story; a brave, but probably not too wise lady. Don't let a stranger in your home, and don't try to apprehend a suspected thief! Quenton Jones and Lindsey Slater, two of our "innovative" young citizens, made the news as they attended the 2006 Fremont High School Prom as ducktaped Cinderella and Prince Charming. Their lavish attire was covered with ducktape~now that's a record new use! (They had to be cut out of their clothes at the end of the day, and reported that they were very warm at the "fancy dress ball.") The costumes were their entry in the National Duck Tape Contest for college scholarship money. They won their Division of the national contest. Each received $200.00 scholarship money for their efforts. (Hope the duct tape didn't cost more than that.) |
