Show Delbert Hodson expressed concern about potholes, specifically one on 1200 West which should be fixed before winter. He said he was very frustrated by the council not being informed that the speed limit on 1200 West and Pioneer Road was being reduced. Both he and Councilman Kim Slater believe that the previous 40 m.p.h. limit was satisfactory. The major widening construction of I-15 has reached more into our city, with increased construction at 12th Street. Closure of the intersection was scheduled for the nights of October 21 and 22, but it was cancelled when the work was completed on the night of October 20. Residents were warned that lane changes have been made on the south from I-84 to 31st Streets, and extra caution should be used. The intersection at 450 North (Pioneer Road) and I-15 was scheduled to be closed from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. on October 30 and 31, 2006. The First United Methodist Church held fundraiser in October to finance a new facility in our community. It was a successful event, with about 100 people attending, and raising over $10,000. A highlight of the evening was auctioneer Lance Quinn's spontaneous demonstration of a Fender guitar. He broke into a version of The Auctioneer Song, to the delight of the audience. They hope to break ground in the spring of 2007. Bits and Pieces Arthur Edward Boren died October 6, 2006, at the age of 69. A son of John and Jennifer Hunt, was born on October 5, 2006. David Buckley Miller, son of David and Jodi Miller, was born October 20, 2006 Leonard G. "Chief" Friedel, age 64, died on October 30, 2006. We congratulate Lee and Pearl Stanger who celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Keith and Marilynne Slater reached the milestone of their 50th wedding anniversary on October 5, 2006. They celebrated the occasion with friends and family at an open house on October 4, held at the Marriott-Slaterville City Hall. Zac Blair was named a weekly Standard Star by the Standard Examiner on October 3, 2006, for his achievements in golf. He is a sophomore at Fremont High School. He capped a Region 1 season in which he never carded a tournament score over par by shooting a 69 at the region tournament held the previous week. He took home season-long medalist honors. He was awarded an engraved plaque, courtesy of Gold Star Awards, Clearfield, Utah. Julie Oram was one of five generations pictured in the Standard Examiner on October 26, 2006. |
