Show Local School Has Health Fair - Marriott-Slaterville - by Joyce VanTassell Pioneer Elementary holds health fair and walk-a-thon Pioneer Elementary School held its Health and Fitness Walk-a-thon night on April 20. Several activities were held to promote better health and fitness for the students and their families. The Weber/Morgan Health department distributed several handouts and played a Spinning for Good Health game for students and families to play. Katie Lance from the Cardiac Fitness Institute at McKay-Dee Hospital did free blood pressure checks along with PTA Co-president Sonya Colvin. Intermountain Healthcare-North Ogden Clinic donated 500 bottles of water for all walk-a-thon participants. The school choir and guitar students performed, and there was also a buy-one-get-one-free book fair. Wal-Mart gave a discount for the prizes, and all prizes were fitness and health oriented. All Walk-a-thon participants got to put their names in a drawing for prizes at the end of the night. Adam Knighton was the grand prizewinner and won a new bike. Dinner included healthy choices of Old Grist Mill Sandwiches, fruit, juice, a small cookie and a mini bag of chips. With approximately 250 participants attending this year's event, Pioneer's PTA plans to hold another walk-a-thon next year. Emily Smith from the Weber/Morgan Health Department spins the "Good Health" wheel for Pioneer Elementary students. |
