Show MARRIOTT-SLATERVILLE CITY NEWS - Marriott-Slaterville City Council Report for May 2006 By Joyce VanTassell budgets for the city. Correspondent Marriott-Slaterville planning commission meets Marriott-Slaterville's planning commission met May 16 and discussed building material requirements for the Mill Creek Meadows subdivision. The commission decided to allow vinyl siding for the backs of the homes in the subdivision, which is an addition to the brick and stone materials that were previously agreed to. The commission next considered and approved a site plan for Sandworks, a company that builds dune buggies. Sandworks is located at 812 W. 1700 S., unit A. Neighbors had complained about late night noise and vehicles racing down the street near the business. Maverick, at 2036 W. Pioneer Rd., applied for a zoning change from A-1 to C2-P. The commission set a public hearing about this proposed change for June 20 during the next planning commission meeting. City council discusses new park, finalizes budgets At the Marriott-Slaterville City Council meeting on May 18, Mayor Keith Butler recognized Brent Perkes and the park committee for their work in making preliminary plans for the new park that will be located behind the city building and senior center. Butler also announced to the council that Marriott-Slaterville has again received recognition from the National Arbor Day foundation as a 2005 Tree City USA. Butler was granted authority by the council to negotiate for landscaping around the city building, with an approximate cost of about $25,000 planned. Three public hearings were held one about service fees planned for the Pioneer Special service district and two others for 2005-2006 and 2006-2007 Pioneer Special Service District fees set City Administrator Bill Morris explained the extra services that are provided for several new subdivisions that are part of the Pioneer Special Service district, which include pressurized secondary water, flood control, open space, maintenance fees, sidewalks, curb and gutter and streetlights. Morris emphasized that only residents of this special service district receive and pay for the services. Other Marriott-Slaterville residents obviously do not pay for any of these services they are not receiving. This resolution passed unanimously by the council, as did the budgets. Resolution 2006-G, which dealt with the interlocal agreement between Marriott-Slaterville and the Central Weber Sewer District, was passed. After discussion, the council decided to have residents pay their sewer fees directly to the Sewer District and then bring their receipts to the city to show as proof of payment. Resolution 2006-H passed unanimously, which will continue the contract with Weber County for five years for law enforcement services. Resolution 2006-I also passed unanimously and extended the interlocal agreement with Weber County for one year. Garbage service costs considered Council Chair Dennis Ilium discussed garbage services next. The city has presently chosen to stay out of the garbage business but listened to a recommendation by resident Jerry Stanger. Stanger said that Marriott-Slaterville was paying about twice as much as neighboring communities for garbage collection. The council discussed how to go about the contract bid process and asked City Administrator Bill Morris to gather information for the commission to review. |
