Show The Mecham family donated the engraved rock in front o the city office. A plaque will be placed on the rock recognizing this donation, and a light will be placed on the rock when the landscaping is finished. Mr. Scott Van Leeuwen thanked the staff for enforcing the nuisance law and getting the house on 700 South at the Willard Canal cleaned up. Mr. Slater said he recently learned that Mosquito Abatement responds primarily to complaints, so if there is a mosquito problem, residents need to call and complain. At the June 20, 2006, planning commission meeting, the site for the community park behind the city office building, and IFA's final site plan were approved, subject to the finishing of IFA's sewer plan. A public hearing was set for July 18 concerning a zoning change requested by Maverick, Inc., at 2036 West Pioneer Road. Permission to move a stream was also requested. This requires both the state and the Environment Protection Agency approval in order to move the stream, before the city can act on their part. On Tuesday, June 20, 2006, a simulated 7.3 magnitude earthquake disaster exercise was held. The city "suffered significant damage" that was handled as a practical exercise. Preparedness packets were distributed to area coordinators who were also asked to bring five to ten volunteer victims to participate. Council members and the EOC met at 7:00 a.m. for an emergency meeting. Neighborhood coordinators were activated. The scenario included a ruptured chlorine storage tank at the Weber County sewer treatment plant. The Army Reserve 328th Combat Support Hospital was set up for training in Business Depot Ogden, with a 44 bed hospital to care for the "wounded." Participating with them were employees from McKay-Dee Hospital, the Weber County Sheriff's Office and Weber County's mobile command center. A UTA bus and Army Humvees took the wounded to the hospital at BDO. Some victims were transported by life flight to McKay Dee Hospital, "packaged" completely by EMTs. City and county leaders were pleased with the preparedness exhibited in the mock disaster. A traffic advisory from Dave Asay, I-15 NOW, (New Ogden Weber Expansion) advised us that the construction crews for this project will take a long weekend off, from 4 p.m. Friday, June 30, until 8 a.m. Wednesday, July 5. This will alleviate some of the problems in the construction area caused by the expected heavy holiday traffic. Traffic cannot access 31st Street westbound from Parker Drive, as the north side of the bridge is being removed.
