Life Saving & Water Safety (Senior Life Saving)—The basic skills of life saving and water safety are taught which leads to Red Cross Senior Life Saving Certification. Introduction to Physical Education—Designed to orient and acquaint students with the aims and objectives, scope, professional preparation and opportunities, and problems in Physical Education. Basic skills, techniques, and methods in sports, dance, and exercise activities. Fall: Football; Handball, squash, conditioning. Winter: Stunts and tumbling; Gymnastics. Sports Officiating for Women: Speedball and Volleyball—The course includes lecture and laboratory work in the mastery and application of rules and officiating techniques for speedball and volleyball. S (2) 205. Sports Officiating (Men)—Designed to give a background and understanding of the rules and techniques of various sports found in the men's program. A (2) 206. Football Officiating—Rules, mechanics, and officiating procedures for football. A (2) 207. Basketball Officiating—Rules, mechanics, and officiating procedures for basketball. A W (2) 208. Rhythmic Analysis—An analysis of the relationship of music to the locomotor steps, basic and traditional dance steps, and other dance movements. Offered alternate years. A (2) 241. Dance Composition and Improvisation—Experience in experimenting and construction patterns of movement to form a composition in dance. Prerequisites: Physical Education 149, 150. S (2) 242. Intermediate Dance Composition—The techniques of composing dance on the intermediate level. Students participate in the construction and ordering of movement phrasing, rhythm, design and dynamics.
