Show the rain had stopped, and ail was ready as approximately 300 children arrived and the great hunt began. From ail reports, the children and the youths of the council had a great time. Pioneer Elementary School held a health fair and walk-a-thon night on April 20, 2006, with about 250 in attendance. It was extremely hot for much of the summer, with several days reaching 100 in some areas along the Wasatch Front. It seemed just a short time before that we were complaining about the cold, or worrying that the fruit blossoms would freeze. As June brings us the beginning of summer, it also brings us summer fun. Lots of activities and fun were available for residents during the summer months. Free tennis lessons for residents were available alt summer. Rackets and balls were available at no cost at the DDO tennis courts. Lessons were taught once a week in the morning for all who were interested. We were delighted with the continuation of the Music in the Park events this past year. The first Music at the Park evening for the season was held on June 26 at the Marriott Park, commencing at 7:00 p.m. It was a night to remember as a talented group, the Salt Lake Harmony Singers, from the Salt Lake valley, entertained us with a program of songs for all members of the family. Refreshments were served at the conclusion of the concert. Residents who did not come to the Evening of Music at the Park on July 17, 2006, at the Marriott Park, missed a real treat. We had great local talent from Robert Hirschi (music) and Michael Murphy (poetry). The out-of-the-community stars of the evening were the Dahl sisters, Jolene Dahl, Shirley Guy, Susan Kelley and Sharon Roe. They presented a hilarious evening of songs, accompanied by various string instruments, humor and delightful antics. (How about the nurse's string instrument?) It was a wonderful evening. The August 7 Music in the Park was the last for this season. It featured members of the Pizzicato Strings, including Kaitlyn and Dallin Holley, Lauren Holley and Sariah Cook. Buzzy and Steve Ito presented a musical number. Mark Malan also entertained us with guitar and song. We are certainly proud of these talented members of our community. Buzzy Ito has been in charge of the program since its inception, and this will be her last year in that position. Daylynn Brandley will fill that position for the coming year. A new event was the free Evening of Music at City Hall held on December 11, 2006, at the municipal building, commencing at 7:00 p.m. Festivities started off with the audience singing Must be Santa, fed by Hannah Brandley. Next we were favored with an original song played and sung by Todd Spencer and Chad Saunders, to the tune of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen. it was entitled, The Restroom Door Said Gentlemen. The Legacy Choir from Fremont High School, directed by Geoff Anderson, filled the room with beautiful music. Numbers sang were Somerset Wassail, Master in This Hall, and Boars Head Carol, with Sam Spears as soloist. Next they presented Infant Holy, Infant Lowly, Once in Davids Royal City, and One Bright Star. The last numbers were accompanied by Swiss bells as the choir sang and played, Still, Still, Still, and Silent Night. Elijah Brandley and Kaitlyn Holley, from our community, are members of the choir. The audience sang Happy Birthday to Jim Ito. The evening, under Daylynn Brandley's direction, concluded with sugar cookies and candy canes as refreshments. Plans were announced in June for the community July 4th celebration, again with highly capable Pam Slater as chair. The fun began on Monday, July 3rd, with the Eighth Annual Marriott-Slaterville Golf Tournament, with tee times between 4:00-7:00 p.m., at Mulligans Golf Course. Danny Brown was again in charge of this event, with some 80 golfers entering the competition. Also on July 3rd, the Little Miss Firecracker Pageant was held. It was open to Marriott-Slaterville children 6, 7 and 8 years old. Little Miss Firecracker was Kylee Fuller, chosen queen, with Addison Jones, Lindsey Hodson and Kelsie Maughan as princesses. The contest was under the direction of Lori Jones. On July 4th, the Freedom Celebration began with flag raising and breakfasts at both the Marriott and Slaterville Parks at 8:00 a.m. Following the breakfasts, a successful parade began at 10:30 a.m. and made its way from 700 South along 1200 West to the Marriott Park.
