Show Weber Sentinel News, October 6, 2006 New Church Building Planned First United Methodist Church raises funds for new Marriott-Slaterville building By Joyce VanTassell Correspondent First United Methodist Church is holding an auction fundraiser for their new building on Saturday, October 7 at 6:00 p.m., with an admission charge of $15 per person. The fundraiser will be held at their present facility, 2604 Jefferson Avenue in Ogden (across from the Eccles Art Center). The congregation is outgrowing their present building built in 1928 and hopes to break ground for the new building in the spring of 2007. The building will be located in Marriott-Slaterville on 400 North. The auction will be a fun community event with live music and hors d'oeuvres for those attending. Attendees will be able to bid on items including fine paintings, jewelry, handmade items, books by local authors, antiques and collectibles. Highlights of the auction will include a "Flowers of the Bible" handmade quilt, folk art quilt, squash blossom necklace, antique coin collection, James Christensen signed print and an antique mantel clock. Many of these items can be viewed on the church's website at www.fumcogden.org. A church that welcomes the community's use of their building, First United Methodist Church hosts such organizations as Girl Scouts, La Leche League, AA meetings and many others. Carolyn Moore, co-chair of the. church's building committee, says, "We invite everyone to come out and support our auction." The First United Methodist Church's new building will be located in Marriott-Slaterville. Funds are now being raised to finance this new facility. |
