Show April 2006 Our community is very fortunate to have so many citizens who are willing to volunteer their time and talents for the betterment of the city. At the April 20, 2006, City Council Meeting, Mayor Keith Butler presented John Burt and Ames Israelson with the monthly Mayor's Awards, for their volunteer work in the city. Mr. Burt has helped out in moving the office and in decorating the new offices. Mr. Israelson snow plowed the city parking lot this winter at no cost to the city. Thanks from the community for all your help! Business licenses were approved for Beatin' the Jones, 749 South 2000 West, lawn care, and TLCS, 126 North 1500 West, house cleaning. A license request for Sandworks, 812 West 1700 South, Unit A, off-road vehicles, was referred to the Planning Commission for an amended site plan review because a complaint was filed by a resident. Elaine Leebman from Weber Pathways spoke to the council. The group is a non-profit organization who promote trail use and trail corridors throughout cities. She presented a matted picture showing the pathways which are established. She thanked the city for seeking to link trails to existing community trails, and encouraged the city to continue with its trail systems. Ken Martin is on the citizens advisory committee on the I-15 project, and reported regarding weather delays, lane closures and restrictions on the freeway. He gave council members a flyer of the time frame for the month of April. He will pass on information from UDOT as he receives it. Mr. Van Leeuwen expressed concerns about the exits which he feels are too short. Mr. Martin said he will ask that question at a meeting the next day, and report the answer. Funding exists for the expansion to go to North Ogden City, but it will likely not be done this year. Mr. Martin noted that our city will not get any sound walls. Throughout northern Utah, including Weber County, a "dire Dyer's Woad" problem exists, as this noxious weed proliferates rapidly across the landscape. Weber County Soil Conservation District and the Weber River Cooperative Weed Management Area has asked for each community to contribute to the Bag O' Woad Bounty Program. The program, to be conducted this spring in Weber County, pays youth a $10.00 "bounty" for each 40-pound bag of dyer's woad they pull, including a two inch root, and return. This helps reduce the problem and impresses youth with the importance of controlling weeds. Weber County will provide $1,000 and waive the transfer station fees for disposal. UDOT will provide the bags, $1,000 will come from a grant, and the Soil Conservation District will contribute $1,000, as well as conduct the program. Mr. Morris said the WRCWMA has asked the city to contribute money to help. The city would not have any input on where the weeds are pulled. Scott Van Leeuwen made a motion that the city contribute $200.00, which he will match with $200.00 of his own money for a total of $400.00. Kim Slater seconded the motion, which passed with a vote of all in favor. Have you seen this nasty plant blooming abundantly surrounding our new building? KBC Leasing proposes to amend its Marriott-Slaterville Business Park Subdivision at 1100 West 1700 South, to add lots. Mr. Martin explained the few changes that have been made to the development, cutting down to eight new lots, and particularly limiting the total lots to 15. The cul-de-sac section would be squared off. The trails are still located the same as previously. President Dennis Ilium said he did not like to give final approval because he just received the information at the meeting. Mr. Van Leeuwen and Rob Smout felt that if the Planning Commission has approved this development, it is an acceptable subdivision. The City Engineer has a list of items on a memorandum that will need to be resolved before recording. All other items have been completed. A motion by Mr. Van Leeuwen to approve preliminary and final approval on the amended subdivision to add to a total of 15 lots, with stipulations on the City Engineer's memorandum of April 20, 2006, resolved, and with President Ilium being able to review the |
