Show December 2006 The Christmas season had a wonderful beginning with a Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, December 9, 2006, starting at 9:00 a. m. in the senior center. Santa was there to greet little ones-and not so little ones--and was available for pictures with them. About 100 people enjoyed the activity, including some three generations-child, parents, and grandparents. The breakfast included pancakes, ham, scrambled eggs, cereal, muffins, juice and milk. On December 11, 2006, an Evening of Music at City Hall was held at the municipal building, beginning at 7:00 p.m. Festivities were arranged for by Daylyn Brandley, and started with the audience singing Must be Santa, led by Hannah Brandley. Next we were favored by an original song played and sung by Todd Spencer and Chad Saunders, to the tune of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen. It was entitled. The Restroom Door Said Gentlemen. The Legacy Choir from Fremont High School, directed by Geoff Anderson, filled the room with beautiful music. Numbers sang were Somerset Wassail, Master in This Hall, and Boars Head Carol, with Sam Spears as soloist. Next they presented Infant Holy, Infant Lowly, Once in David's Royal City, and One Bright Star. The last numbers were accompanied by Swiss bells as the choir sang and played, Still, Still, Still, and Silent Night. Elijah Brandley and Kaitlyn Holley, from our community, are members of the choir. The evening concluded with sugar cookies and candy canes as refreshments. A Christmas Message by Council President Dennis Illum, was printed in The Pioneer Post December 2006 issue. He expressed thanks for the wonderful community in which we live, which he credited to the efforts of residents, volunteers, elected and appointed officials, and city staff. He hopes that our community improves each year. He also welcomed the new residents who have found this a nice place to live, work, and rear their families. We were cautioned to drive with caution with winter snow storms arriving. Citizens were reminded of snow removal regulations. Property owners are responsible to remove snow from sidewalks in front of their homes and their private driveways. Vehicles parked on roads during or after a snow storm impede snow plowing and may be towed at owner's expense. Garbage cans from road shoulders should be removed as soon as possible after collection. A successful food drive was held in our community on December 9. Scouts helped gather the food to be used by the food bank and local shelters. At the December 21 council meeting, Mayor Keith Butler presented the 2006 community awards. The Good Neighbor Award was presented to Mike and Pam Hunsaker, being nominated by the Smout family. The Elna Lucas Community History and Culture Award was presented to Buzzy Ito and Lynette Deru for their service with the Music in the Park summer concert series since its inception several years ago. William M. Morris was also presented the Elna Lucas Community History and Culture Award for the pioneer histories of the Morris family, early settlers of the community, and ancestors of Mr. Morris. Zack Spencer received the H. Orvil Holley Youth Leadership Award for furnishing whisper phones to students in three classrooms at West Weber Elementary. This was his Eagle Scout project, and he was nominated by his brother, Brady Spencer. Justin Buttars received the Darrell Mecham Outstanding Community Service Award for restoring a gazebo for the park. Community congratulations also go to these volunteers for outstanding service. At the meeting, business licenses were approved for Four Mile Creek, 949 North 1200 West, a home occupation, Kristin Jamieson Fine Arts, 126 North 2020 West, photography and sales of paintings, CJ's Restaurant and Bakery, at 1720 West 12th Street, D & K Wood Work's, 1618 South 1100 West, cabinet |
