Show Monday 24 below our window Dinner for 1000 followed by awards & then dancing. Quite noisy. But I got settled down Nan is a wonder in what she endures Tuesday 25 Breakfast at the Surf terrace. In our room Nan read aloud Vanity Fair. I feel more myself today, but we plan to take things easy. Nan got a letter from her Melba. Quite a hot day. I settled down to writing. Wrote letters to Laurie, Tommy Dee, Dee & Sally Mack & cards to 6 other friends & family. Sucumbed to a perspiring spell & rested for the balance of the day. Nan went out twice on errands. We read Vanity Fair Wednesday 27 A little cooler this am. We had energy to go to S Surf room for breakfast. I our room waiting until 2 pm when Mrs. Elizabeth (Lib.) Davis friend of Nans Scott & Louise called to take us out. Such a 3 hour ride! All the government bases. Hickham Field Pearl Harbor Along the harbor to see all the dry docks (Were taken thru a perfume factory to begin with Lib had liberty of the post ac officers wife. A lot of dreary counting then the beauty of post headquarters. Good homes nicely kept (orderlies). Ended up at the Davis home. We had a nice chicken dinner & a visit after on their lawn while two little girls put on a luau. The folks brot us home, tired but satisfied Thursday 28 John (Colburn) called for us at 10 am. as arranged. At our invitation he brought his wife & 2 little children From our hotel thru lovely verdant country with homes, around Manna lula Bay diaryon Head to Cocoa Head (H Bay (volcano Crater) The blow hole tide out not blowing much. Then all along sea shore Many beautiful homes. Dorothy Dukes hide away. Kaisers home and miles of land of the Bishop grant where vast development is taking place. Saw Crouching Lion Point also Mokumame Point with light house the farthest East point of the island. Along a highway parting the ocean. Homes and homes in luxurious gardens buried in trees |
