Show Dewey B. (Hoot Owl) Matthews _ A star shines brighter in the heavens after the passing of Dewey B. (Hoot ~ Owl) Matthews. Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully at St. Bene dict’s Hospital a on February 4, _ 1993 after a lin- gering illness. Dewey was born April 8, 1919, in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. His first wife Irene died in 1954. On February 14, 1986, he married Rita Gagnon, whom | he loved and™ sae cherished very ‘hich: in Ogden, Utah. The marriage was blessed in the Cath- —olic Church on June 23, 1992. On November 14, 1942, Dewey joined the U.S. Army. He obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was honorably discharged on February 15, 1945. _ Dewey had worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for more than 39 years. He retired in 1986. At the time of his death, Dewey was an active member of the American-Legion. He had served as past commander of Post 66 thru. 1977-1979 and again in 1984, past manager of 40/8 Legion Club, and current Chef De Gare of 40/8; 40/8 Voiture 404. He received many achievement awards and was a member of numerous committees. Dewey's life was dedicated to helping others. Those who knew him loved him, those who didn’t missed pleasure of being associated wonderful man. He was preceded in death parents and one brother. - the with a by his Surviving are his wife of Ogden; two. daughter, Carla Price, Omaha Nebraska; Stephanie Wade, Omaha, Nebraska. Also surviving are five stepsons \ and two stepdaughters, Tommy Gag- | non, Mickie Gagnon, Johnny Gagnon, Billy Gagnon, Paul Gagnon, Mrs. Anita ‘Shearing, and Mrs. Marian De Caro, all of British Columbia, Canada; also four | grandchildren; ten step-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Following cremation, friends are in- vited to meet at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd., Monday, February 8, from 6 to 7 p.m. Followed by a memorial service at 7 p.m. Military Honors performed by the V.F.W. | In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to “Our Lady of the Mountains Retreat House’, 1794 Lake St., Ogden.
