Show Doris Jean Reed ... On February 24, 1996, Our Heavenly Father stretched out his arms to embrace the spirit of a precious daughter, devoted wife, dear mother and grandmother. Doris Jean Newton was born May 22, 1937 to Andrew and Lubertha Newton in Montrose, Ashley County, Arkansas. She was the only child from this union. She spent much of her childhood in Little Rock, Arkansas where she went on to graduate from Dunbar High School in 1955. Upon her completion of High school she moved to St. Louis, Mo. to be with her mother who had later remarried. She grew to love her stepfather, Rev. Ernest "Pop" Lacy whom she greatly respected along with many others whose names are to numerous to mention. She confessed hope in Christ as a young age and united with Nash Prayer Ban Mission (St. | Louis, Mo.) under the leadership of Mother Laura R. Nash, where she served as church Secretary, usher and sang in the choir. She relocated to Ogden, Utah i in 1966. On June 7, 1967, she married Homer E. Reed. union was added one daughter, Monique. To this She was a member of Embry Chapel AME Church where she served as an Usher and graciously used her voice to magnify the Lord. She volititented endless hours with her husband's Boy Scout Troop #287. She was a daughter of the Elks Timpanogas Temple #483. She was part owner with her husband and two very dear friends of the successful Janitorial Business H&F Maintenance. She has been employed at Weber County Mental Health as a secretary, and Ogden Area Community Action Agency as the fiscal secretary. She served for 17 years many federal government agencies such as IRS, Hill Air Force Base, and employed with the Defense Finance and Accounting Service until her untimely demise. Her interests were many, she loved music, the company of her closest friends, and cherished the time she spent with her grandchild/son "Roycie" who was truly her pride and joy. Her sense of humor, intelligence and charm will be acne missed. For she was truly a perfectionist both personally and professionally. She was preceded in death by her mother, this truly “Classy Lady" leaves to cherish precious memories: Her father and step-mother, Andrew and Letha Newton, Montrose, Ark; Husband, Homer E. Reed; daughter Monique L. Reed-Bumpers and husband, Ogden; Homer's children from a previous marriage, a daughter Margaret Matthews and family, Chicago, IIl.; a son, Michael Reed and family, St. Louis, Mo.; five sisters, Brenda Peoples, Kansas City, Kansas; Linda Brewer, Mary Lancaster, Ruth Lancaster and Darletha Newton, all of Montrose, Ark.; two brothers, George Crow, Jr., Belton, Mo.; Melvin Crow, Montrose, Ark.; three dear cousins, Bessie Person, Gloria Schumer, both of St. bag Mo.; Ernest Lacy, Freeport, Ill. ; and not to be forgotten, a host of nieces, nephews,, cousins and an dbunduase of very dear friends. |
