Loretta Inman Mrs. Daisy Wills Shelton departed this life Monday, March 17, 1997 atherhome. | Mrs. Shelton was born to John Wesley Wills and Florence Wills in Sunflower, Mississippi on October 10, 1912. She was the eighth of ten children. While still a young child, her parents moved to Pine Bluff, Arkansas where she grew up. Her early education was received in the public schools of Pine Bluff from which she graduated. At an early age she united with the New Town Missionary Baptist Church and was baptized under the pastorate of Rev. W. H. Polk. Mrs. Shelton was married to the late Wendell P. Shelton on September 22, 1934 - a marriage that covered 57 years. Following this marriage, she joined her husband as she became a member of Eight Avenue Baptist Church. They remained there until they moved to California in 1954. Prior to moving to San Bernardino, California, Mrs. Shelton was associated with her late husband in the operation of Shelton's Cloth- ing Store and Dry Cleaning Store located at Third and State Street for 25 years. They also operated Shelton's Trails End Barbeque which became the talk of the town as an eating place. Daisy and her late husband joined the Fellowship of the Bethesda Baptist Church in San Bernardino, California. They faithfully served both church and community for some 33 years. She was a mother of the church and he was a deacon. Upon retiring to Pine Bluff in 1988, they both reunited with the Eight Avenue Baptist Church where they remained until their demise. She leaves to mourn her passing: a son, James "Jimmy" Shelton (Ola) Odgen, Utah, a sister, Luella Walker, Pine Bluff, Arkansas; and several nieces, nephews, a host of other relatives and friends. |
