Show Academic Information Eligibility—In order to be eligible to represent or participate in student organizations or any extra-curricular activities, the college specifies certain minimum standards of eligibility. To protect students from becoming too involved in extracurricular activities when their scholastic record is not high enough to warrant the additional expenditure of time and to assure the institution is appropriately represented, the following eligibility standards are to be met: I. ELIGIBILITY STANDARDS A. Be matriculated and registered for twelve (12) or more quarter hours each quarter. 1. This credit is interpreted to mean: any courses accredited at Weber State College or any accredited college or university. 2. Should the student withdraw from a class during the quarter making the total hours carried less than twelve (12) the student automatically becomes ineligible for participation in specified extracurricular activities. 3. When extenuating circumstances exist and a student drops below the minimum requirement during the quarter, he/she may make a written appeal to the Eligibility Committee chairman. 4. The receiving of an E, NC, or Incomplete grade for a course is interpreted as having completed the course for the quarter. B. Maintain a cumulative overall GPA of at least 2.0. 1. The Incomplete grade received for a course is not used in calculating the GPA or cumulative GPA until a letter grade is received for the course. C. Those students holding student government leadership positions must in addition to the above requirements, maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.25 each quarter, as specified in the student body constitution. Those students aspiring for student government leadership positions, including class officers, must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 to be eligible for any office. D. Any student placed on academic warning or disciplinary probation will be deemed ineligible. Academic Information II. SPECIFIC ACTIVITIES CONCERNED A. Student government and other student leadership and service activities. B. All student organizations, including social and service organizations, sororities and fraternities, ethnic and religious groups, and other similar organizations. C. Music and dramatic events. D. Debate. E. Publication staffs. F. Chatonelles, Song Leaders, and Rally Men. G. King and Queen, and other similar contests, such as "Miss Weber State," "Ski King and Queen," etc. Before students may represent Weber State College in intercollegiate athletics, they must comply with the eligibility regulations adopted by the Institutional Council of the College, the constitution and operating code of the BIG SKY Conference, and the NCAA. Any student who participates in any of the activities concerned without meeting all of the criteria for eligibility, including registration for 12 or more quarter hours in the quarter during which the student participates, places himself and his organization in jeopardy. Should his eligibility be challenged and found wanting, his organization may be required to forfeit any win it may have gained during such participation. III. ELIGIBILITY COMMITTEE The Eligibility Committee, composed of administrators, faculty and students, is administratively appointed to do the following: A. To interpret all rules governing eligibility. B. To determine the eligibility of all participants in organized studentbody activities. IV. STANDARDS AND TOTAL WORK LOAD Students should avoid overloading themselves to a point that their performance suffers. In general they should expect to study two hours for each hour of lecture. Care should be taken to keep the total work load, including outside work, at a reasonable level. No student should plan to work more than 20 hours a week on outside work if he is taking 15 hours of credit. 42 43 |
