Show Continuing Education — Community Development Continuing Education — Summer School OFF-CAMPUS STUDIES DEPARTMENT The Off-Campus instructional program is designed to provide credit and non-credit educational opportunities to groups off the campus who wish to pursue a degree program or to improve their vocational and personal competency. Classes are held Monday through Saturday at times consistent with requirements of the requesting group. The College cooperates with the various governmental installations, businesses, and civic groups in planning and presenting specific courses to meet the needs of employees. Knight, Coordinator Judy McKee, Coordinator Continuing Education provides an arm of the College which keeps direct communication with community needs both within the immediate region and a state level. The primary purpose of this subdivision is to promote greater utilization of the resources of higher education for development of the total community. Business, industry, government agencies, civic groups and other groups are made aware of the services available through higher education. Coordinating with the schools of the College the following kinds of services are available to aid and enhance community development: (1) Research services, (2) Consultant services, (3) Educational classes and programs, (4) Conferences, institutes and workshops. UTAH SKILLS CENTER NORTH Gerrold Mukai, Associate Director George Campbell, Assistant Coordinator Tony Ulibarri, Assistant Coordinator The Utah Skills Center North represents a unique organization of state and local agencies and lay citizens in the Ogden area who cooperate to provide quality, short-term prevocational and vocational training for low-income and handicapped adults. Vocational training programs are offered on and off the campus. Students are provided job development and placement assistance, personal and vocational counseling, child care and transportation assistance. Persons who wish to enroll in the Skills Center may apply directly at the administrative office in the Exchange Building in West Ogden or they may contact any of the following: Ogden Employment Security Agency Farmington Employment Security Agency Davis County Community Action Program Davis County Community Action Program Division of Family Services, Ogden Division of Rehabilitation Services, Ogden Division of Continuing Education, Weber State College SUMMER SCHOOL Paul G. Butterfield, Dean Weber State College offers a full quarter of work in summer school. It is designed to serve the needs of the following: 1. High school graduates who recognize the importance of securing additional academic training before entering the armed services, who wish to make up deficiencies before entering medical, dental, or engineering schools, or who wish to prepare for positions. 2. Adults who wish educational guidance, training or general self-improvement. 3. College men and women who desire to accelerate completion of an academic degree. 4. Veterans who wish to take advantage of their GI schooling opportunities. 5. Employees who wish to improve their vocational skills. CONFERENCES AND INSTITUTES STUDIES DEPARTMENT Lee A. Beckner, Coordinator The Conferences and Institutes Studies Department is designed to assist the various schools of the College in serving the educational conference needs of persons and groups from all segments of society who desire information and instruction in specific fields. Services provided by Continuing Education consist of program planning, budget development and arrangements for physical facilities. 352 353 |
