Show Academic Information tion, or for the Certificate of Proficiency must file a written application for graduation with the Graduation Office not later than the sixth week of the Autuma Quarter. Applications will not be considered within the last few weeks before Commencement, unless special permission is given by the Dean of Admissions and Records. A candidate for graduation must pay his graduation fee at the Cashier's Office at the time he is making application for graduation. A candidate is required to be present at Baccalaureate and Commencement Exercises unless excused by the Dean of his School and the President of the College. Application for such excuse should be addressed in writing to the appropriate dean of his school. Honors at Graduation—A candidate who has completed requirements for graduation at Weber State College and whose ratio in all registered work is not less than 3.8 is awarded high honors (magna cum laude); a student whose ratio in all his registered work is not less than 3.4 is awarded honors (cum laude). The names of students winning high honors and honors are published in the commencement program, and elsewhere, as the President may direct. Honors for Commencement are determined during the spring quarter and do not reflect final grades for that quarter. Payment of Fees—The student must have cleared all college financial obligations. REQUIREMENTS FOR BACHELOR OF ARTS AND BACHELOR OF SCIENCE DEGREES Minimum Requirements—A candidate for graduation with a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science Degree must have completed a minimum of 183 credits. Upper Division Requirement—A minimum of 60 credits of upper division work. Major Requirements—A major in any one department will consist of not fewer than 40 and not more than 60 credits in the major field. Minor Requirements—A minor consists of not fewer than 20 credits. Courses designed primarily for the major students which are also used to satisfy the area requirements as outlined under area requirements, can be used as part of the minimum number 46 Academic Information of hours needed for the minor requirements. See department for specific minor requirements. For information pertaining to majors that do not require a minor see the dean of the school. Residence Requirement—A candidate for graduation must have a minimum of 45 credits in residence at Weber State College and be registered at the College during at least one quarter following the last commencement prior to his graduation. School or Department Requirements—Further information concerning specific courses will be provided under the discussion of school or department requirements and instructions. Candidates for graduation in the School of Education must meet the minimum requirements as outlined by the Utah State Board of Education for certification of elementary and secondary teachers. Specific Course Requirements—All candidates must include in the 183 credits required for graduation the following courses: Credits English 101, 102, 103 (Freshman Composition) 9 Health Education 100 2 Physical Education (Medical exemption approved by the college physician required to waive this requirement) 3 (For specified activities see Physical Education Department) The state requirement in American History, Government and Economics 3-5 The state requirement in American History, Government, and Economics may be satisfied by: 1. Selecting one of the following courses: Economics 274 Economic History of the United States; Economics 430, Business and Government; History 170, American Civilization; History 120, United States Histoiy and History 121, United States History; History 420, Constitutional History of the United States; Political Science 110, American National Government; Philosophy 320, Philosophy of Democracy.
