Show Services of the College A medical examination is required of every student before his initial entrance to Weber State College. The college physician will evaluate the results of the examination and shall be the final judge of the student's physical fitness to participate in activities. In the event a student is injured or becomes suddenly ill while on campus, the Security Office should be called, phone 393-0973. The student will then be transported to his doctor, the Student Health Center, or to the hospital, for care. After office hours, the student should call his private physician, or Security Officer for transportation to the hospital. The Student Health Center is located in Annex IV, just north of the Security Office. The center is open from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. The health staff consists of a part-time physician, a part- time psychiatrist, who is also consultant to the counseling staff, and a registered nurse. Treatment and consultation may be arranged for by appointment. Medical care at the Student Health Center is paid from student health service fee. Any further medical care beyond that provided at the Health Center must be paid for by the student or his insurance plan. A health and accident policy for students is available only at time of registration at a special rate. This insurance plan is especially designed for students at Weber State College for protection against medical expenses for injury and illness. Unless protected by some other form of insurance, it is strongly urged that all students take advantage of the low cost insurance plan. Students are encouraged to consult the Health Service on any problem they may have concerning their health. HIGH SCHOOL SERVICES The High School Services Office maintains liaison between Weber State College and prospective students. Representatives of the college make scheduled visits to all of the high schools and junior colleges within the state and to selected schools in neighboring states. The purpose of these visits is to inform students and educators of the educational programs available at the college and to provide them with information about application procedures and deadlines. Campus visits for interested student groups, and student and counselor conferences, are coordinated through the High School Services Office. Services of the College STUDENT HOUSING SERVICE On the Weber State College campus there are four residence halls available to students. Living in the residence halls provides an excellent opportunity for students to live, work, and study together. This becomes a vital part of the college experience. Each hall is under the supervision of a Head Resident couple who arc well qualified and trained to work with students. The Head Residents are assisted by a Resident Assistant on each floor. Resident Assistants are usually junior and senior students. A student government organization provides for a well balanced educational, cultural, and social program in each hall. Residents must be regularly enrolled full-time Weber State College students. Room assignments are made for the full academic year. For housing information, brochures, and applications, write the Director of Housing, Weber State College, Ogden, Utah. STUDENT HOUSING POLICY All single freshmen students (students having 44 credit hours or less at the beginning of Autumn Quarter) under 21 years of age, not living at home, are required to live in college operated residence halls. Freshmen students desiring to commute from their home to Weber State College daily may do so by indicating this desire to the Housing Office PRIOR to registration at the college. Should the students commuting later decide to move to Ogden, they would be required to abide by the policy explained above. In unusual circumstances, the Housing Committee may be petitioned in writing by the student or his parents for exception to this policy. Should the Committee's decision be to grant permission to the request, this permission must be received by the student in writing PRIOR to his registration at the college. Any student may apply for permission to live in the residence halls. When applications for admission to residence halls exceed the available facilities, the Director of Housing shall decide which students will be admitted. Inasmuch as Weber State College is concerned about the welfare of students not living at home but living in off-campus facilities, the college may investigate such arrangements. 66 67 |
