At least one course must be completed in the Life Science area. A candidate for the Bachelor of Science degree must complete at least 9 credit hours in the Life Science Area. The selections must be chosen from at least two of the six groups. Group VII is for Honors students. It is recommended that students who have received a "B" grade or better in Zoology, Botany, or Physiology in high school and who score in the upper half of the American College Test (ACT) satisfy the general education requirement by electing courses in different areas from those completed in high school. The general education area requirements in Life Science may be satisfied by selecting courses from those listed below: I. Botany 341, Conservation (4) Zoology 342, Natural History (4) Zoology 380, History of the Life Sciences (4) II. Botany- Botany 101, Plants in Human Affairs (3) Botany 110, General Botany (5) Botany 160, Local Flora (4) Botany 361, Trees and Shrubs (4) III. Microbiology- Microbiology 111, Introductory Microbiology (5) Microbiology 115, Elementary Public Health (3) Microbiology 374, Sanitation (4) IV. Zoology- Zoology 230, Heredity (5) V. Zoology- Zoology 160, General Zoology (5) Zoology 211, Invertebrate Zoology (5) Zoology 212, Vertebrate Zoology (5) VI. Zoology- Zoology 201, Human Physiology (5) VI i. New Directions in the Biological Sciences (3) PHYSICAL SCIENCE AREA A candidate for the Bachelor of Arts must complete at least 9 credit hours in the combined Life Science and Physical Science area. At least one course must be completed in the Physical Science area. A candidate for the Bachelor of Science degree must complete at least 9 credit hours in the Physical Science area. The selection must be chosen from at least two groups. Group V is for Honors students. To provide the broadest possible science background for the general student, the selection of courses should depend upon his high school preparation. The student who has done well in a high school course in a given subject field should not select a course that might repeat essentially the same subject matter. For example, a student who has done well in a high school physics course should not take Physics 101, but should select courses from chemistiy and earth science, or astronomy. A student who has done well in high school chemistry should not take Chemistry 101, but should select courses from earth science and physics. The general education area requirement in Physical Science may be satisfied by selecting courses from those listed below: I. Chemistry- Chemistry 101, Introduction to Chemistry (5) Chemistiy 111, and either Chemistry 112, Elementary Organic Chemistry or 113, Elementary Biochemis- istry (5) (5) Chemistry 121 and Chemistry 122, Principles of Chem- try (5) (5) II. Earth Science- Geography 101, Physical Geography (5) Geology 111, 112, Physical Geology and Laboratory (5) Geography 113, Meteorology (5) 52 53 |
