Show Technology — Machine Tool Technology — Welding Courses of Instruction 100. Machining Principles—Tool grinding, metal cutting, measurements, lathe operations. Five lectures. A (5) 101. Machine Processes—Fundamental lathe and drill press operations and bench work. Five laboratories. A (5) 102. Machining Principles—Precision drilling, boring, and shaping of metals with respect to various machines and their cutting tools. Prerequisite: Machine Tool 100. Five lectures W (5) 103. Machine Processes—Fundamental milling machine, advanced lathe and drilling operations. Prerequisite: Machine Tool 101. Five laboratories. W (5) 104. Machining Principles—Fundamentals in heat treatment of metals; grinding principles involved in surface grinding, cylindrical grinding, internal grinding, tool and cutter grinding. Prerequisite: Machine Tool 102. Five lectures. S (5) 105. Machine Processes—Heat treatment of metal parts and tools; surface grinding, cylindrical grinding, internal grinding, tool and cutter grinding. Prerequisite: Machine Tool 103. Five laboratories. S (5) 127. Machine Shop—Basic fundamentals in the operation of lathes, drilling machines, milling machines, including bench work and layout. One lecture, two laboratories. A W S (3) 200. Tool Principles—Fundamental principles of tool making; types of tooling, dies, molds; tool grinding. Prerequisite: Machine Tool 104. Five lectures. A (5) 201. Tool Building—Tool making and precision machining processes. Prerequisite: Machine Tool 105. Five laboratories. 202. Tooling Principles—Types of drill jigs, milling, grinding and turning fixtures; standard parts, fitting of drill bushings. Prerequisite: Machine Tool 200. Five lectures. W (5) 203. Tool Building—Jigs and fixtures fabrication. Prerequisites: Machine Tool 201. Five laboratories. S (5) 204. Tooling Principles—Production principles in setting up machines, operational sequence, attachments, tooling and gauging methods. Prerequisite: Machine Tool 202. Five lectures. S (5) 205. Tool Building—Production problems involving set-ups, operational sequence, attachments, special tools, jigs and fixtures. Prerequisites: Machine Tool 203. Five laboratories. Options available are numerical control machining and programming, tool and die fabrication, machine shop supervision, and general machine shop specialties such as grinding, tool and cutter grinding, and high volume machining. WELDING The Welding curriculum is designed for the student who wishes to major in welding. The various aspects of electric, oxyacetylene and inert processes arc included. General service courses are offered for those in related areas who wish to become familiar with the principles of welding as applied to their respective fields: NOTE: Sophomore year will not be offered 1972-73. Courses of Instruction 101. Oxyacetylene Processes—Skill in welding, cutting, hard- facing, surface-bonding, testing, and inspection of sheet and plate steel welding as applied to the American welding standards. Five laboratories. A (5) 102. Principles of Gas Welding—Oxyacetylene processes, including fusion of mild steels, surface bonding of the non-ferrous alloys, cutting techniques, and the safety factors with respect to gas welding. Five lectures. A (5) 103. Electric Welding Processes—Structural joint designs, hard surfacing, testing, and inspection of arc welding. Five laboratories. W (5) 104.
