At this time, they should inform their draft board of anything about themselves that will help determine whether they are classified 1-A (available for military service) or in one of sixteen other classifications of men considered available for service. The registrant will then be mailed a notice of classification. Each year the selective service system in Washington, D.C., conducts a lottery that will determine each student's lottery number. This number along with information the registrant provided the draft board will help determine when and if he will be drafted. Student College Deferment—A student may no longer be given a II-S classification to attend college. Only those students who have had II-S deferments during the 1970-71 school year are eligible to continue the deferment Other deferments should be applied for through the local Selective Service Board in which the student is registered. Those students with a II-S classification must take forty-five hours of acceptable credit per year to maintain their deferment. ROTC Program-The college offers Army ROTC both in the two-year and four-year programs. All interested students should contact the ROTC Department located in Promontory Towers. An Aerospace ROTC program through the University of Utah is also offered. For further information, see the Weber State College catalog under Aerospace studies. Reserve Programs—Students may prefer to meet their obligation by joining a reserve or national guard unit. Direct contact should be made with the unit in which the student is interested. Services of the College For further information regarding military service obligations and college deferments, contact the Assistant Dean of Students who is the military adviser on campus.
