Show Arts, Letters and Science — Foreign Languages concurrently with this series. Courses are sequential, and it is recommended that they be taken in order. Prerequisites: Spanish 103 or equivalent. A W S (2-2-2) HU302. Culture and Civilization of Spain—History, geography, social customs, fine arts and civilization of Spain and her colonies. (Offered alternate years.) Prerequisites: Two years of college Spanish or the equivalent. W (3) HU303. Culture and Civilization of Spanish America—History, geography, social customs, the fine arts and contemporary civilization of Hispanic America. (Offered alternate years.) W (3) HU304, HU305, HU306. Third Year Spanish-Intensive study of grammar, syntax, stylistics, and composition and their application. Courses are sequential and it is recommended that they be taken in order. Prerequisites: Spanish 203, 216, or consent of the instructor. A W S (3-3-3) 309. Travel and Study Abroad—Language, culture, and history of Spanish-speaking countries taught abroad by members of the Weber State College faculty during summer tours arranged by the Foreign Language Department. Su (3) HU311, HU312, HU313. Survey of Spanish Literature-Early Middle Ages through twentieth centuiy. A general view of literary periods, movements, and social background, with representative readings. Presented either according to literary periods or genres. Survey of Spanish American Literature—A survey of the Spanish language literature of Hispanic America from the early colonization period to the present. Courses are sequential and it is recomended that they be taken in order. Prerequisites: Spanish 203, and 216 or the consent of the instructor. (Offered alternate years.) A W S (3-3-3) 330. Spanish Phonetics—An advanced course in the principles of Spanish phonetics, analysis and correction of faulty pronunciation and techniques of teaching Spanish phonetics for teaching majors and minors. Prerequisites: Spanish 203 and 216 or the consent of the instructor. W (2) 340. Methods of Teaching a Foreign Language—A practical course in up-to-date techniques in teaching foreign languages. Must be taken prior to commencing student-teaching or similar Arts, Letters and Science — Geology and Geography training. Recommended for third year. Prerequisites: Spanish 203 and 216 or the consent of the instructor. S (3) 401. Senior Year Language Studies—Advanced studies in grammar, composition, translation and linguistics. The Department of Geology and Geography provides an opportunity for the student to acquire an appreciation of his natural environment through lectures, films, laboratory studies, and field trips.
