Show Arts, Letters and Science — Foreign Languages are sequential and must be taken in order. Prerequisite: French 103 or equivalent. A W S (3-3-3) 209. Travel and Study Abroad—Language, culture and history of France taught in Europe by members of the Weber State College faculty during summer tours arranged by the Foreign Language Department. Su (3) HU214, HU215, HU216. Conversational French-Intensive development of oral expression and active vocabulary through pronunciation drills, controlled discussions on subjects of current interest, and oral practice on assigned topics, vocabulary, idioms, and cultural items. French 201, 202, and 203 should be taken concurrently with this series. Courses are sequential, and it is recommended that they be taken in order. Prerequisite: French 103 or equivalent. A W S (2-2-2) HU302. Culture and Civilization—History, geography, fine arts, social customs and civilization of France. Prerequisites: Two years of college French or equivalent. A (3) HU304, HU305, HU306. Third Year French-Intensive study of grammar, syntax, stylistics and composition and their application. Courses are sequential, and it is recommended that they be taken in order. Prerequisites: French 203 and 216, or consent of the instructor. A W S (3-3-3) 309. A general view of literary periods, movements, and social background, with representative readings. Presented either according to literary periods or genres. Courses are sequential and it is recommended that they be taken in order. Prerequisites: French 203 and 216, or the consent of the instructor. French Phonetics—An advanced course in the principles of French phonetics, analysis and correction of faulty pronunciation, and techniques of teaching French phonetics for teaching majors and minors. Prerequisites: French 203 and 216, or the consent of the instructor. W (2) 340. Methods of Teaching a Foreign Language—A practical course in up-to-date techniques in teaching foreign languages. Must be taken prior to commencing student teaching or similar Arts, Letters and Science — Foreign Languages training. Recommended for third year. Prerequisites: French 203 and 216, or the consent of the instructor. S (3) 401. Senior Year Language Studies—Advanced studies in grammar, composition, translation and linguistics. Prerequisites: French 304, 305, and 306. A (3) 420- French Literature of the Middle Ages—(Offered alternate years.) A (3) 421. French Literature of the Sixteenth Century—(Offered alternate years.) TBA (1-5) GERMAN German Major*—Students majoring in German are required to take 36 to 40 hours of upper division credit. The following numbered courses are required: 304, 305, 306, 311, 312, 313 and 330. Additional courses may be chosen from the following numbered courses: 302, 309, 401, 419, 440, 442, 444, 460, 463, 470, 483 and 499. German Minor*—Students minoring in German are required to take 18 hours of upper division credit which must include the following numbered courses: 304, 305, 306, 311, 312, and 313. German Teaching Major*—A German teaching major must complete the program outlined above for German majors and must also take 340 which must be completed prior to commencing student teaching or similar training.
