Show Business and Economics — Office Administration Business and Economics — Office Administration hours selected from the following: Office Administration 150, 341, 325; Accounting 201 and 202; Economics 101 etc. (See minor advisor for substitute courses.) Associate of Science in Office Administration—The student must complete a minimum of 93 credit hours including the 57 hour genera] education college requirement for the Associate of Science degree and 30 credit hours from the following: Office Administration 103, 123, 150, 301, 325, 341, 351, 352, and 355; Accounting 201, 202, and 254; Finance 101; Economics 101 and 102; Management 101 and 320. Certificate of Completion in Office Administration—The student must complete a minimum of 93 credit hours including the 37 hour general education college requirement for the Certificate of Completion and 40 credit hours from the following: Office Administration 103, 123, 150, 301, 325, 341, 351, 352, and 355; Accounting 201, 202 and 254; Finance 101; Economcis 101 and 102; Management 101 and 320. Business Education—Accounting and Office Administration are acceptable areas of concentration in the Composite Teaching Major and Economics is an acceptable Business Teaching Minor. Composite Major in Business Education—This teaching major is recommended for prospective secondary school and junior college business educators and consists of a minimum of 82 quarter hours in the areas listed below. The area of major emphasis can be either accounting or secretarial. A 2.25 GPA is required. In addition to the general education requirements of the College and the core requirements of the School of Business and Economics, the student must complete 33 hours of education courses and Office Administration 103, 123, 150, 301, 341, 351, 352, 355, 361, either 362 or 363, and 499. Those emphasizing Accounting should substitute Accounting 311, 312, and 313 for Office Administration 123 and 341. Mathematics 102 may be substituted for Mathematics 105, Management 101 for Management 364, and all majors are exempt from the following core requirement: Economics 250, 251, 301, or 302, Finance 320 and Management 478. Teaching Minor in Business Education—A teaching minor in Business Education is available in the area of Typewriting with Accounting, Business Machines, or Shorthand as the other area of emphasis with not less than 24 credit hours. See minor advisor for exact course listings. 214 Courses of Instruction 101. Elementary Typewriting—Development of sustained typing power, control of figures and symbols, improvement of techniques. A speed of at least 30 words per minute should be attained. May be waived by proficiency examination. Credit will not be given to students who have had six months of typing previously. (Formerly Personal Elementary Typewriting.) A W S (3) 102. Intermediate Typewriting—Continuation of Office Administration 101. Review of keyboard, business letters, tabulated reports, improvement of basic skills, and intensive speed building. For those typing 25 words per minute or faster. Prerequisite: Office Administration 101 or equivalent. (Formerly Elementary Typewriting Continued.) A W S (3) 103. Advanced Typewriting—Manuscripts, special problems in letter arrangement and business forms. Prerequisite: Office Administration 102 or at least 40 words per minute. (Formerly Intermediate Typewriting.) A W S (3) 111. Machine Shorthand—Introduction to Touch Shorthand keyboard, theory, and speed development with dictation speeds to 60 words per minute or faster. Prerequisite: Office Administration 102 or equivalent, or take concurrently. A W (4) 112. Intermediate Machine Shorthand—Continuation of Office Administration 111. Completion of the entire shorthand theory with practice dictation. An entrance speed of at least 40 wpm. Prerequisite: Office Administration 102 and 111 or equivalent. (Formerly Machine Shorthand Continued) W S (4) 121. Elementary Shorthand—Introduction to theory of Gregg Shorthand system with emphasis upon reading and writing fluency. Not open for credit to students who have had six months of previous shorthand training. Prerequisite: Office Administration 101 or equivalent, or take concurrently. A W (4) 122. Intermediate Shorthand—Continuation of Office Administration 121. Use of the entire shorthand theory in practice dictation. An entrance speed of at least 50 words per minute is required. Not open for credit to students who have completed two years of shorthand. Prerequisites: Office Administration 102 and 121 or equivalent. (Formerly Elementary Shorthand Continued.) A W S (4) 123. Advanced Shorthand—Stenographic shortcuts, abbreviations, phrases and transcription. An entrance speed of at least 215 |
