Show Services of the College by the faculty members concerned, the Scholarship Committee and the Placement Office. Loan Funds—The college maintains a student aid loan fund which is administered by the Student Aid Committee. Loan funds are available through the following: 1. Lydia Tanner Memorial Loan Fund, a fund established by private donor, the interest of which is used as a loan fund for worthy students. 2. Altruist Club Student Loan Fund, a fund established by the Ogden Altruist Club to assist students in meeting their registration fees. 3. Ogden Cotillion Club Student Loan Fund, a fund to assist students financially. A borrower may have part of his loan forgiven for high scholastic performance during the quarter it is used. 4. The Ogden Rotary Club Fund: A sizeable loan fund for worthy students. 5. The Wheelwright Student-Faculty Loan Fund, established in 1946 by David R. Wheelwright. The contribution of $2,000 was made with the idea that it would be a perpetual trust fund to be loaned to worthy needy students and to faculty members. 6. Charyea Club Loan Fund, a small loan fund to assist a limited number of students. 7. Aglaia Club Loan Fund, a small loan fund set up to aid students. 8. David R. Evans Memorial Loan Fund, a small loan fund to assist students in need. 9. The National Defense Education Act (NDEA) of 1958, authorized loans to students who are in attendance at, or desire to attend institutions of higher learning and who qualify for assistance according to the terms of the Act. Application for these funds may be made to the Office of Financial Aid. 10. Federally Insured Loans, which are disbursed through commercial banks, are available to students without the requirement of the CSS parents statement. Repayment of the loan is deferred until the student leaves school. Applications for these funds are available from the Office of Financial Aid. Work-Study Program—Eligible students may receive Work- Study student assistantships, working in approximately the 64 Services of the College same capacity as the regular student assistantships. In addition, eligible students may work as custodial assistants if they are not qualified for an academic position. To be eligible for the Work-Study Program, a student must be attending Weber State College full time, must maintain a satisfactory grade point average, and must need financial aid. Further information and applications may be obtained from the Financial Aids Office. Law Enforcement Education Program—Police officers and others employed in other branches of law enforcement may receive grants to meet their education expenses. College Scholarship Service—Weber State College participates in the College Scholarship Service (CSS) of the College Entrance Examination Board. Participants in CSS subscribe to the principle that the amount of financial aid granted a student should be based upon financial need. The CSS assists colleges and universities and other agencies in determining the student's need for financial assistance. Entering students seeking financal assistance are required to submit a copy of the Parents' Confidential Statement (PCS) form or the student's Financial Statement (SFS) form to the College Scholarship Service, designating Weber State College as one of the recipients. The forms may be obtained from a secondary school or the College. ALL FINANCIAL AIDS ABE PREDICATED UPON THE AVAILABILITY OF FUNDS AT THE TIME THE APPLICATION IS MADE. FOREIGN STUDENT ADVISEMENT The Foreign Student Adviser gives assistance to foreign students in meeting the U. S. Immigration and Naturalization Service requirements concerning visas, passports, permission to work and related matters. Foreign students are also assisted in making academic, personal-social, and environmental adjustments to campus and community life. Social and cultural events, home hospitality, community activities and the programs of the International Student's Club are coordinated through the Foreign Student Office. STUDENT HEALTH CENTER The Health Service of Weber State College has been established for the education and protection of students. 65 |
