Show Academic Information QUALIFICATIONS FOR CANDIDACY For a student to be admitted to candidacy for any degree or title, his scholastic record must show that he has satisfied the entrance requirements and that he can fulfill the requirements for graduation upon the completion of the courses for which he has registered. No credit obtained prior to the time his college standing was established may be used toward graduation. The Graduation Committee may make exceptions in individual cases. Grade Requirements—A student must attain an average grade point of at least 2.0 for all his registered work. Credit Restrictions—Not more than 30 quarter hours of D grade credit may be applied toward graduation. The school or department, however, may reject any or all D grade work toward the major or minor requirements. Not more than 45 of the total hours required for the baccalaureate degree may be correspondence credit. Residence Requirement—A candidate for any degree or title must be registered at the College during at least one quarter following the last commencement prior to his graduation. Change in Graduation Requirements—A student normally is held to the requirements outlined in the catalog published four years before the year of his graduation. Where there is a written agreement between a department chairman and a student, graduation requirements within a student's major or minor may be met by completing the requirements outlined in any catalog published one, two, or three years before the year of graduation. To meet specific and general education requirements, a student normally follows the requirements listed in the catalog published four years before the year of his graduation. With the approval of the Graduation Office he may complete the specific and general education requirements by following the requirements outlined in a catalog published one, two, or three years before the year of his graduation. Military Training Credit—Students having completed 24 or more months of active military service are granted a maximum of 13 credit hours towards graduation. These credits are granted in the following areas: 3 credit hours in Physical Education; 2 in Health Education; and 8 as electives. Academic Information Other military credit is granted for some service schools if specified requirements are met. For further information inquire at the Graduation Office. Application for Graduation—A candidate for the bachelor degree must file a written application for graduation obtained at the Graduation Office during the Spring Quarter of his junior year. Each applicant will receive a written report on his standing for graduation upon which to plan the work for his senior year. A candidate for the title of Associate of Arts or Science, or Associate of Applied Science, or for the Certificate of Completion, or for the Certificate of Proficiency must file a written application for graduation with the Graduation Office not later than the sixth week of the Autumn Quarter. Applications will not be considered within the last few weeks before Commencement, unless special permission is given by the Dean of Admissions and Records. A candidate for graduation must pay his graduation fee at the Cashier's Office at the time he is making application for graduation. A candidate is required to be present at Baccalaureate and Commencement exercises unless excused by the dean of his school. Application for such excuse should be addressed in writing to the appropriate dean. Honors at Graduation—A candidate who has completed requirements for graduation at Weber State College and whose ratio in all registered work is not less than 3.8 is awarded high honors (magna cum laude). A student whose ratio in all his registered work is not less than 3.4 is awarded honors (cum laude). The names of students winning high honors and honors are published in the commencement program and elsewhere as the President may direct. Honors for Commencement are determined during the Spring Quarter and do not reflect final grades for that quarter. Payment of Fees—The student must have cleared all college financial obligations. REQUIREMENTS FOR BACHELOR OF ARTS AND BACHELOR OF SCIENCE DEGREES Minimum Requirements—A candidate for graduation with a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science Degree must have completed a minimum of 183 credits. |
