Show General Information General Information 4. Continuing education and adult programs, conferences and inservice training functions for the citizens of the community and of the state. 5. Service to minority and disadvantaged members of our society through vocational and academic training. The college program is designed to implement these objectives through day school instruction, evening and summer school instruction, extra-curricular activities and through student service functions. 1. The basic instructional program is offered in the five academic schools of Arts, Letters, and Science; Business and Economics; Education; Technology; and Allied Health Sciences. 2. The Institute of Ethnic Studies provides for specialized program activities for all minority students within the framework of the college objectives. Continuing Education, the Honors Program, and Women's Environ Institute also provide specialized program activities. 3. Extensive off-campus offerings complement the day, evening and summer school activities of the faculty. 4. Specialized departmental functions include: The Department of English Language and Literature, the Department of Theatre Arts, the Department of Communication, and the Department of Art plan and sponsor student publications, debating, extempore and impromptu speaking, oratory, interpretative speech, drama, radio and television. The Department of Music plans and sponsors opera, oratorio, choir, and ensemble singing as well as orchestra, band, choral, and instrumental activities. The Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation plans and sponsors intramurals for men, intra- murals and extramurals for women, the Physical Education Majors and Minors Club (PEMM), and the Orchesis Program. These programs are designed to develop in the participant the qualities of a professional attitude, initiative, physical fitness and good sportsmanship; to teach self-control and cooperation; and to provide stimulating recreation for students, faculty, and people of the community. The School of Allied Health Sciences sponsors annual health career days. The Science Department sponsors a science fair. Various departmental, professional, honorary, and student organizations are available at the College.
