For this reason, a student who receives a grade below "C" in a prerequisite mathematics course will be required to repeat this course before he is eligible to register for the next course. Placement tests—Mathematics placement tests are required prior to registration of all students who have not completed the specified prerequisite courses from an accredited college with a "C" grade or better within the past year. Students are admitted to Mathematics 105 on the basis of their performance on the ACT entrance tests and their high school background. Exceptions to the above requirement must be approved by the mathematics department chairman and the instructor involved. Qualified students may waive the requirement of taking Mathematics 105, Mathematics 106, etc., by passing qualifying examinations in the appropriate subject. Examinations should be taken well in advance of registration. Arrangements to take the examinations must be made with the college testing bureau located in the Student Personnel Center. Students are advised to review material to be tested before examinations are taken. While the department aims to help students register for proper mathematics courses, primary responsibility rests with the students. Students enrolled in mathematics classes for which they do not have the required prerequisites may have their registration in such courses canceled at any time. A student who fails to get a "C" or better grade in a repeated course may be denied the privilege to re-register for that course. BACCALAUREATE DEGREE REQUIREMENTS Students who wish to select a major or minor in mathematics must file an application with the Chairman of the Mathematics Department and must have their programs approved before registering for upper division courses. Department Major—The following courses are required for the departmental major: Bachelor of Arts Degree Mathematics 107, 211, 212, 213, 214, 321, 322, 323 and in addition, at least 21 credit hours of other approved mathematics courses numbered above 307. These courses must be completed with a "C" grade or better. At least 12 credit hours of mathematics courses numbered above 307 must be earned at Weber State College. Physics 261, 262, 263, 264, 265, 266. German 101, 102, 103, 201, 202, 203 or the equivalent in another approved modern language. Bachelor of Science Degree The same as lor the bachelor of arts degree, except that students desiring a bachelor of science degree may select approved electives in the place of the modern language. It is recommended that majors planning graduate work obtain at least a reading knowledge of French or German or other approved modern language. Departmental Minors-Mathematics 107, 211, 212, 213 and in addition at least eight credit hours to be chosen from mathematics courses numbered above 307. At least one four-credit hour course numbered above 307 must be completed at Weber State College. Teaching Major—Courses submitted to satisfy the Physical Science area requirement must include 10 credit hours from Physics 261, 262, 263, 264, 265, 266 and/or Chemistry 121, 122. (See Physical Science area requirements.) Required mathematics courses are: Mathematics 107, 211, 212, 213, 214, 301, 310, 312 and, in addition, at least 16 credit hours of courses selected from Mathematics 321, 322, 323, 331, 332, 335, 341, 342. Other courses numbered above 307 may be substituted on approval of the Mathematics Department. At least eight credit hours of mathematics courses numbered above 307 must be earned at Weber State College. Teaching Minor-Mathematics 107, 211, 212, 213 or 310 or 331, and 312. Mathematics 301 is a recommended elective for teaching minors. At least one four-credit hour course numbered above 307 must be completed at Weber State College.
