Show Continuing Education — Community Development 4. Courses designed to upgrade employer and/or employee competency. 5. Trade extension refresher programs for journeymen and technical courses related to on-the-job experiences for apprentices. 6. Hobby and recreational programs for adults to better plan leisure time and retirement activities. An effort is made to present any program for which there are both sufficient demand and available facilities. In most cases, a minimum of 10 students or a minimum guarantee by an organization for a specific program is necessary in order to justify the cost of the program. FACULTY All members on the instructional staff are selected for their outstanding recent experience in education, business or industry. Most of them are employed during the day in responsible positions in their fields of specialization, and bring to their classes the benefit of current knowledge and practical experience. COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT Carl E. Jensen, Coordinator Maurine R. Humphris, Coordinator Ruth V. Knight, Coordinator Continuing Education provides an arm of the College which keeps direct communication with community needs both within the immediate region and on a state level. The primary purpose of this subdivision is to promote greater utilization of the resources of higher education for development of the total community. Business, industry, government agencies, civic groups and other groups are made aware of the services available through higher education. Coordinating with the schools of the College the following kinds of services are available to aid and enhance community development: (1) Research services, (2) Consultant services, (3) Educational classes and programs, (4) Conferences, institutes and workshops. Continuing Education — Extension Programs EXTENSION PROGRAMS Terry E. Paskins, Coordinator Carl E. Jensen, Coordinator Classes taught off the campus are designed to provide credit and non-credit educational opportunities to groups off the campus who wish to pursue a degree program or to improve their vocational and personal competency. Classes are held Monday through Saturday at times consistent with requirements of the requesting group. The College cooperates with the various governmental installations, businesses, and civic groups in planning and presenting specific courses to meeting the needs of employees. Specialized classes which supplement and complement the class offering by academic departments are also conducted on the campus. Travel Study Programs may be offered anytime throughout the year. Programs may be arranged for college or community groups who wish to develop educationally while traveling within the state, the United States or in other countries. The purpose of the Travel Studies Program is to upgrade, encourage, and facilitate educational travel. The Travel Studies Program will coordinate with other departments on campus and welcomes suggestions and requests from any individual or group interested in programs of a Travel Study nature. All persons participating must be regularly enrolled in a class or classes either credit or audit. CONFERENCES AND INSTITUTES STUDIES The Conferences and Institutes Studies Department is designed to assist the various schools of the College in serving the educational conference needs of persons and groups from all segments of society who desire information and instruction in specific fields. Services consist of program planning, budget development and arrangements for physical facilities. COUNSELING Counseling in the area of vocational choice, educational planning, or any personal concerns is available by appointment.
