Show Learning Resource Center — Instructional Media Learning Resource Center — Instructional Media INSTRUCTIONAL MEDIA MINOR The Instructional Media Minor is designed primarily to meet the Utah State Board of Education requirements for the Basic Media Endorsement. In order to obtain the Basic Media Endorsement, an applicant must hold or be eligible to hold a Basic Professional Certificate endorsed for teaching. The minor is also provided to prepare instructional media personnel for business, industry, public libraries and graduate study. A minimum of 25 quarter hours of credit for the minor and the Basic Media Endorsement are required. The following courses are requirements for the Instructional Media Minor: 311, 321, 431, 462, 470. The following courses are elective courses for the Instructional Media Minor: 301, 341, 412, Eng. 330, Art 110, Art 446. The student is to select two of these courses to meet his or her educational goals. COURSES OF INSTRUCTION 301. Reference Service in Instructional Media Centers—Introduction to the evaluation and selection of reference mediai for use in public school Instructional Media and Resource Centers. S (3) 311. Selection and Utilization of Instructional Media—The selection, evaluation, utilization and integration of instructional media for public school programs. Attention will be given tc selection aids, publishers, agents and reading interest. A W (5) 321. Classification and Cataloging of Instructional Media- Basic techniques involved in organizing an Instructional Media Center collection of print and nonprint media. The student? must have the ability to use a typewriter. Four lectures and one laboratory period. A W (5) 341. Oral Activities in the Instructional Media Center- Principles and techniques of story telling, book talks and bool; discussions, and reading aloud to children and young people practice in reading and telling stories, book talks and book discussions and in planning the I.M.C. story hours. W (3) 412. Reading Guidance for Media Center Coordinators- Especially designed for public school media coordinators whe work with teachers of young people. A critical study of the reading interest and needs of young people. Problems of the reluctant, retarded and emotionally disturbed readers will be discussed. Extensive examination, discussion and reading of books. S (3) 431. The Organization and Administration of Instructional Media Centers—An examination of roles, structures and functions of Instructional Media Centers. Emphasis will be on the relationship of the I.M.C. to the educational program. A W (3) 462. Advanced Production of Instructional Media—Production of basic types of instructional media. All materials will be designed and produced to meet specified instructional objectives. Prerequisite: Education 361 or equivalent. A W (3) 470. Instructional Design—A systematic approach to solving instructional problems. Examination of basic instructional models with emphasis on working with teachers to solve realistic instructional problems. W S (3) 382 383 |
