Student College Deferment—A student may no longer be given a II-S classification to attend college. Other deferments should be applied for through the local Selective Service Board in which the student is registered. ROTC Program—The college offers Army ROTC both in the two-year and four-year programs. All interested students should contact the ROTC Department located in Promontory Towers. An Aerospace ROTC program through the University of Utah is also offered. For further information, see the Weber State College catalog under Aerospace studies. Reserve Programs—Students may prefer to meet their obligation by joining a reserve or national guard unit. Direct contact should be made with the unit in which the student is interested. For further information regarding military service obligations and college deferments, contact the Assistant Dean for Veterans Affairs and Military Advisement. PLACEMENT CENTER Hugh R. Jacobs, Director Agnes V. Paulsen, Coordinator, Teacher Placement The Weber State College Placement Center is a service organization. The Center is dedicated to uphold the aims and the objectives developed through the College Placement Council; "Service to the student; service to the employer; service to the institution." Specific functions of the Placement Center are: (1) to offer career counseling to all students, especially those who haven't determined an academic major; (2) to assist prospective graduates in securing career employment; (3) to assist students in securing part-time employment while attending college; (4) to supplement the information and suggestions provided by academic departments to students desiring to do graduate work. The Placement Center cooperates and works closely with various representatives of local business and industry in addition to the Utah Employment Security Office. The Center is also the coordinating agency between students and the many school districts, business, industrial and governmental organizations from many areas of the United States. The Placement Center maintains current and accurate information concerning employment and occupational trends both nationally and locally. WOMEN'S ENVIRON INSTITUTE ; Jan L. Tyler, Director The Women's Environ Institute was established to promote the conservation and more effective utilization of all human resources. To achieve this goal, the Environ will identify realistic guidelines for change, and will help prepare others—through the educational process—to create the environment throughout our society. The Environ will work to establish a model structure and environment on the campus of Weber State College; one within which women may become full partners in the process of educating and becoming educated. Women's Environ creates an atmosphere which allows men and women the opportunity to discover that feminine values and attributes are valued as highly as male values, respective ethnic values, etc. That to be accepted as a person, it is not necessary to hold (or pretend to hold) the values of men; to be included in decision making and working relationships it is not necessary to become alter-egos to males. The basic goal of the Women's Environ is to remain open and honest, entertaining concerns of all women and relationships with all men. It builds and maintains an integral affiliation and cooperation within the college teaching/learning community. Area of Emphasis—The Environ will concentrate its effort in the following ways: 1. Research through the establishment of a Commission on the Status of Women to act as an educational arm to the Governor's Committee on the Status of Women in Utah. 2. Information by acquiring and collecting for ready accessibility, reference resources (books, reports, studies, films, slides, periodicals, government documents, etc.) which 72 73 |
