Show Services of the College ACADEMIC ADVISEMENT At the time of admission to Weber State College, every student is assigned to a faculty adviser in his major field, in General Education, or in Guided Studies. Through an appropriately assigned adviser, guidance is available for each student as he plans his registration schedules and moves toward a degree of his choice or towards a certificate program. When a student is placed in Guided Studies, or on academic probation, he is assigned a counselor in the Counseling and Testing Center. A student may seek assistance from his adviser or counselor with any educational or personal problem at any time. For information concerning Academic Advisement, inquire at the Office of Advisement. BOOKSTORE The College Bookstore, located on the ground floor of the Union Building, is the source for all college text books and supplies. The bookstore will be open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. daily, Monday through Friday. The evening hours will be from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., Monday and Tuesday of each week. During the first week of the quarter the bookstore is open from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m., Monday through Thursday. BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS SERVICE For the student's classwork and activities the College provides an adequate physical plant and a buildings and grounds staff which maintain an environment that is comfortable, healthful, and wholesome. COLLEGE LIBRARY The Library provides a rich store of printed materials especially selected to serve students and faculty. The collection, continually growing in cultural value, includes more than 180,000 volumes along with a working library of pamphlets, documents and bibliographical aids. The College, through its library service, subscribes to approximately 1,400 literary, scientific and educational periodicals, as well as to state and national newspapers. In addition, the Library houses several special collections, most noteworthy of which is the Howell collection of approxi- 76 Services of the College mately 12,000 volumes. This collection, willed to the College by the late Judge James A. Howell, consists mostly of eighteenth and nineteenth century American literature. The Library hours are: 7:00 a.m. - 11:00 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Fridays 11:00 am. - 5:00 p.m. Saturdays 1:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Sundays Closed holidays. COMMUNITY SERVICES Weber State College recognizes its role as a participant in the total community and strives to fulfill its responsibilities as a participant. The College's faculty and staff serve on boards and committees within the community setting. The College, through Continuing Education, offers services and facilities in planning and implementing conferences and institutes. Evening and off- campus offerings are designed to meet the academic and interest needs of both degree and non-degree persons. Other areas of service in Continuing Education include special vocational and adult basic education programs, consultation in community- related problems, and research. The Office of College Development will assist requesting groups and organizations in securing program speakers from the faculty and staff of the college when possible. MUSEUMS Weber State College Museum of Natural History is located on the main floor of the Science Hall Building. Exhibits represent the various areas of interest from the science departments as organized under the direction of the museum curator. An occasional exhibit is used which has been prepared by other museums and government agencies. The museum is an excellent educational opportunity for all of the area citizens and visitors. Hundreds of school children from the immediate area visit the museum regularly. The museum is open all year except for holidays. Zoology Museum—A large collection of mammals, birds, amphibia, reptiles, insects, and other animals is maintained by the Department of Zoology. Numerous species from Utah and 77 |
