WANTS CHARLES BOUT Layne Back Home After Garden Win By GEORGE FERGUSON If Rex Layne, Utahs greatest heavyweight hope since Jack Dempsey, could have Alladins magic lamp, hes rub it three tubes and wish that his next bout would be with Ezzard Charles for the heavyweight championship of the world. Rex didnt stutter when he answered Ezzard Charles to the question, Who do you want to fight next? After he had beamingly stepped from an airliner Saturday night, kissed his pretty brunette wife and joggled his routund seven month old daughter, Launa. Rex looked great. Except for the mouse under his left eye and an evident discomfort when he broke out with a smile, the former Lewiston farm lad seemed none the worse for his eightround fight Friday night in Madison Square Garden with Bob Satterfield, thirdranked lightheavyweight in the world. The young Utah heavy, who had just returned from adding the biggest feather yet to his fistic career bonnet, frowned at the suggestion of a bout with Joe Louis, exworld heavy champion. Ill fight Louis if he take the title otherwise I dont see any point in fighting him, Layne said. Asked when he thought the tough Friday night fight began coming his way, the youthful boxer, whom Gene Tunney Friday night predicted would some day become champion, grimly replied, Right after I got up from my first round knockdown. Rex was just as sure he was going down for the second time in his career in Friday nights first round as he was the first time he went down after a blow from Joe Louis in an exhibition bout. But Layne countered that he was equally sure Satterfield was due for a trip to the canvas after he landed those solid blows in the final seconds of the eighth round.
