Show CITY NEWS IN BRIEF Utah Symphony Signs Up Native S. L. Bassoonist A native Salt Laker who studied bassoon in Vienna and who recently graduated from the Eastman School of Music, Walter Green, 160 1st Ave., is the first leading musician to be signed by the Utah Symphony Orchestra for the 195152 season. Signing of Mr. Green as first bassoonist was announced Friday by David S. romeny, managing director of the orchestra. Mr. Green Mr. Green received his early training at Horace Mann Junior High School and West High School. While he was in the Army in Vienna he studied under Karl Ohlberger, first bassoonist of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. He received his bachelor of music degree at the Eastman School in Rochester, N. Y., studying bassoon with Vincent Pezzi, principal bassoonist in the Rochester Philharmoic. Symphony rehearsals begin in midOctober, according to Mr. Romney, who reminded music lovers to reserve season tickets early. To Dedicate Chapels The Mt. Tabor Ward Chapel in Portland, Ore., and the Salem, Ore., Ward Chapel are to be dedicated by LeGrand Richards, presiding bishop of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints, in service this week end. Dr. Joseph F. Merrill, member of the L D S Council of Twelve Apostles, will dedicate the combined Richland Stake House and First and Second Wards Chapel in Richland, Wash. Plan Church Outing Former Northwestern States missionaries of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints, will hold an outing Saturday at 5 p.m. in the southeast grove of Miss Rela Wardle, group president, announced Friday. A softball game, luncheon and a program are planned for the occasion. Named to U. S. Board Dr. Lawrence Morris, producer relations director for the Utah Poultry and Farmers Cooperative, has been named regional chairman for the feeds section oft eh Poultry and Egg National Board. He will represent Utah, Idaho and Nevada. Dr. Morris is the national boards first feeds section representative in this area. Dr. Morris has been with Utah Poultry for about two years. He was graduated from Arizona University and won his masters degree at Texas A & M and his Ph.D from Louisiana State University. To Plan Activites First Methodist Church will plan its activities for the coming year during an outing to Big Cottonwood Canyon after Church services Sunday at 11 a.m., announced Dr. John L. Spargo, pastor. He said officials of the church, board members, department heads, superintendents and Sunday School teachers will meet in separate groups and then together to vote on projects for the year. New appointments in the church were listed by Dr. Spargo as Kenly W. Whitelock, adult choir director; Mrs. Rose Baltrusaitis, junior choir director; Mrs. Martha Prisk, organist, and MRs. Anna Eck, secretary. Business College Picnic To welcome new students to L D S Business College, a picnic was held on the campus, 70 N. Main, Friday noon.
