Respected Couple Will Observe Anniversary 1951 TribuneJany 2 1951 Fifty years ago today an earnest Weber county educator and returned missionary was married in the Salt Lake temple to a talented, attractive Salt Lake City musician and teacher. Five years later, after untiring service to church and community, the husband was ordained a member of the council of the twelve of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints. Today he is honored as second counselor to the president of the church and is senior member and president of the council of the twelve, which places him first in order of succession to the presidency. President and Mrs. David O. McKay, respected and loved by members and nonmembers of the church, will observe their anniversary quietly. A family dinner is planned in their honor at Hotel Utah. They are the parents of six sons and daughters and have 16 grandchildren. It is significant that David O. and Emma Ray Riggs McKay should observe their anniversary so near to the New Year. They are persons of good will in every way. Kindness, thoughtfulness and love have marked their lives. They are living examples of the teachings of their church. Elder McKay has held many positions in the L D S church, among them president of the European mission, church commissioner of education, superintendent of the Deseret Sunday School union and, in addition, has served in many civic, welfare and patriotic organizations. He was one of the founders of Weber college at Ogden, is a former member of the state legislature and has served on numerous commissions and boards. In addition to her devoted service to her children, Mrs. McKay has held many responsible church positions. The Salt Lake Tribune joins in wishing this splendid couple and their family many more happy anniversaries.
