1951 Brigham Young To Play in N.Y. 1951 NEW YORK, Feb. 24 (UP) Four of the nations leading teams St. Johns, North Carolina State, Brigham Young and Arizona were entered in the 1951 national invitation tournament today with an opportunity to go after a basketball grandslam. Officials of the N. I. T. assured the tournament of the strong nucleus yesterday, in the midst of Madison Square Gardens scandalravaged fortunes, by corralling these powerhouses, all of whom also are contenders for berths in the N. C. A. A. championships. St. johns, winner of 20 out of 23 games, is the nations leading independent team ranked ninth nationally and is expected to receive a memberatlarge bid to the N. C. A. A. The Redmen are the only team that has won the N. I. T. twice in a row, in 1943 and 44. N. C. State (244) already has clinched the regular season Southern conference championship and can earn an N. C. A. A. berth by winning the conference tournament at Raleigh, N. C., beginning March 1. Brigham Young (215) leads the Skyline Six conference and Arizona (214) can clinch the Border conference title by beating New Mexico tonight. Both conference championships carry N. C. A. A. berths. The 12team invitation tournament will be played at the Garden, March 10 to 17.
