Air Force B 36 bomber, was made successfully when Capt. J. H. Seely set one of the mammoth air machines on the ground, officers said Thursday.The ship was brought to an easy stop shortly after 6 p. m. Wednesday on an eight hour training mission from Carswell Air Force Base, Fort Worth, Tex.Normally the B 36 has a flight crew of 15 men, four of whom are relief men. On this flight, however, there was a flight crew of 14 men and another ground crew of 14 men, in order to insure complete care of the plane at such bases where these planes are not provided for in repair or replacement activities.The B 36 bomber measures 230 ft. from wing tip to wing tip and 162 ft. 6 in. from nose to tail tip. It stands 46 ft. 7 in. high.Power for its flights is provided by six reciprocating piston engines, or propeller pusher type engines, plus four jet engines, two at the end of each wing.The world s largest land based bomber, the plane has a cruising range of 10, 000 miles with a 10, 000 lb. bomb load, but the range would be less at the maximum load of 84, 000 lbs. Its maximum takeoff gross weight was given as 358, 000 lbs.
