48 PER CAPITA Utah Smoke, Drink Bill Drops in 50 On a per capita basis, Utahns smoked 69.5 packages of cigarets, consumed 11 gallons of beer and drank 18.05 worth of liquor during the year ended June 30, 1950. This was revealed in a report issued by the state tax commission Saturday. All three figures were slightly below those of the previous year. Specifically, per capita cigarette consumption was down two packs and beer a fifth of a gallon. Average output for liquor dropped 88c per person. Looking at is another way, the average Utahn spent 48.06 on cigarets, beer and liquor during the year. This was a decrease of 1.46 compared with the previous year. From a revenue standpoint, the state received 905,000 from the 48,000,000 packs of cigarets sold and 273,000 from the 7,700,000 gallons of beer. The liquor business, entirely administered by the state, amounted to 12,400,000 in sales and taxes. Figures were based on a population estimate of 689,908 as of Dec. 31, 1949.
