Show Few Medics Still Attend Standard Feby 1st 51 Home Continement Cases By Dr. William Brady My doctor has delivered over 3000 babies, reports a New England reader, but in the eyes of my friends he is not a specialist because, well, because he is a general practitioner. He decries the practice of going to a hospital for delivery and declares it is highway robbery. His fee for delivery is 84 and he doesnt deliver by remote control. Friends Pay 300 My girl friends pay 300 for hospital delivery. In the hospital they are placed in a delivery room, where they suffer alone except for a nurse running in at intervals and then dashing out again. There they lie waiting, wondering and praying for the time when their doctor pardon me, I mean their specialist will arrive. Just as the baby is due, in pops the specialist, who orders the poor soul anesthetized, slits the outlet to hasten delivery, inserts stitches to repair the wound, and bows out. The nurses then lay down the law to the mother and she goes home in a week or two, where another specialist takes on the care of the baby. Hes Still in Practice I just wanted to assure you, Dr. Brady, that there are a few of these wonderful doctors still in practice, and I have one of them. He is Dr. he remains with his patient and sees to it that she is never left alone by his patience and skill he brings about the birth normally and skillfully (Mrs. C. L.) He may be a fine doctor in his way but his horse and buggy would look odd hitched to the bumper of the 3000 Chattle mortgage standing in front of the apartment. The 450 snobs (up from 300 a month, they tell me) just have to have specialists, trick specialists, of course, but fancy and pretentious enough, in order to keep up with the Joneses. Attend confinement I publish this readers letter to assure you poor geeks and your specialists that there are still in practice doctors who really attend confinement cases at home. I warn readers, however, that I cannot name such doctors for them. North America, South America, the West Indies, etc., comprise a large territory and a lot of doctors, and life is short and I have a schedule of bowling to do and the greens are like huge billiard tables this winter, so you poor geeks will have to find out which doctors in your vicinity deliver babies at home by canvassing the panel till you stumble upon one who does not pose (with the blessing of the A. M. A.,) as a specialist. And when you have found him, never let him go. Mislaid clipping from your umn recommending the that rates a place in brany. Incidentally, ment of my whom our proved high E.
