Show Arts, Letters and Science — Foreign Languages ITALIAN Courses of Instruction 101, 102, 103. First Year Italian—Listening and speaking skills receive primary emphasis, although reading and writing are an integral part of the program. Five recitation periods and two laboratory periods per week. Courses are sequential, and the previous course is a prerequisite. A W S (5-5-5) HU201, HU202, HU203. Second Year Italian-Grammar and composition of intermediate level and progressively advanced reading from well-known authors. Continued emphasis on listening and speaking skills. Courses are sequential and must be taken in order. Prerequisite: Italian 103 or equivalent. A W S (3-3-3) 330. Italian Phonetics—An advanced course in the principles of Italian phonetics, analysis and correction of faulty pronunciation, and techniques of teaching Italian phonetics for teaching majors and minors. The following numbered courses are required: 304, 305, 306, 311, 312, 313, 314, 315, 316, and 330. Spanish Minor*—Students minoring in Spanish are required to take 18 hours of upper division credit which must include- courses numbered 304, 305 and 306 and nine hours of literature which may be: chosen from the following numbered courses: 311. 312, 313, 314, 315 and 316. Spanish Teaching Major*—A Spanish teaching major must complete the program outlined above for Spanish majors and must also take 340, which must be completed prior to commencing student teaching or similar training. Spanish Teaching Minor*—A Spanish teaching minor must complete the program outlined above for Spanish minors and in addition must take 330 and 340. Travel and Study Abroad—Language, culture, and history of Spanish-speaking countries taught abroad by members of the Weber State College faculty during summer tours arranged by the Foreign Language Department. Su (3) HU214, HU215, HU216. Conversational Spanish-Intensive development of oral expression and active vocabulary through pronunciation drills, controlled discussions on subjects of current interest, and oral practice on assigned topics, vocabulary, idioms, and cultural items.
