Show Continuing Education — Academic Information Continuing Education — Academic Information Travel Studies Department Carl E. Jensen, Coordinator Travel Study Programs may be offered anytime throughout the year. Programs may be arranged for college or community groups who wish to develop educationally while traveling within the state, the United States or in other countries. The purpose of the Travel Studies Department is to upgrade, encourage, and facilitate educational travel programs. The Travel Studies Department will coordinate with other departments on campus and welcomes suggestions and requests from any individual or group interested in programs of a Travel Study nature. All persons participating must be regularly enrolled in a class or classes either credit or audit. ACADEMIC INFORMATION Admissions Requirements How to Qualify—Continuing Education classes are available to persons who are 18 years of age or older (not attending high school), or who have graduated from high school, or have passed the high school level General Education Development test with scores specified by the College. In order to receive credit toward an academic degree, however, a student must qualify for admission according to the criteria outlined on page 19 of this catalog. Students on suspension from a college or university must apply for admission or re-admission, and be accepted, before college credit will be allowed. Academic Standards—In all cases where degree credit is granted academic standards of the Division of Continuing Education are the same as those of the day school, and are outlined beginning on page 40. Counseling Counseling in the area of vocational choice, educational planning, or any personal concerns is available by appointment to students of the Evening School during evening school hours. Students of the Evening School who are unable to arrange for counseling during evening school hours may arrange for an appointment to see a counselor during the day. Appointments may be made through the main office of the Counseling Center, Weber State College. Numbering of Classes See page 17 of the catalog. Fees, Deposits and Refunds Evening Classes—The charge for each Evening School class is published in the Evening School Schedule. Evening School students will be charged a lecture fee of $.50 a quarter and a building fee of $3.00 a quarter regardless of the number of quarter hours for which they enroll. Off-Campus Classes—Due to the additional cost of teaching off-campus classes the fees are slightly higher than the fees for comparable classes in the on-campus Evening School Program. Specialized classes are contracted according to costs incurred in setting up and operating the class. Late Registration—A late registration fee of $5.00 is assessed evening students beginning with the first day general college evening instruction begins for the quarter. Exceptions may be made when classes are added to the schedule and when new classes are scheduled for a later date. A late registration fee of $5.00 is assessed off-campus students beginning with the second class period. Refund Schedule—Full refunds are made only when a class is cancelled. Refunds made for the convenience of the student are made according to the following schedule: Weeks in Attendance One week or less Second week Third week Over three weeks Amount Refundable 75 per cent 50 per cent 25 per cent No refunds allowed The 50 cent lecture fee is not refundable. Off-Campus Trade and Industry courses in which a reduced fee is charged are non-refundable. Attendance—Registration and enrollment presupposes regular attendance at recitations, lecture, and laboratory sessions. A student who is irregular in his attendance may be dropped from class and given an E or UW grade (see page 29 of this catalog). 354 355 |
