Show Academic Information Academic Information If the applicant plans to major in a specific area in college, he should plan his high school program accordingly. As many courses as possible should be taken in related areas to give the student the best preparation for that major. Students coming ill-prepared for their major may be required to take preparatory courses in college. All Utah high school graduates should strive to achieve a grade point average of at least 2.0 in high school work. (A=4-0, B=3.0, C=2.0, D=1.0, E=0.) Non-resident or out-of-state applicants should present a 2.2 high school grade point average. Applicants not meeting this standard will be reviewed for admission by the Admissions Committee. 2. Admission by Other Than High School Credential: a. ACT—A person 18 years of age or over may use the ACT test results to satisfy entrance requirements if he scores in the fiftieth percentile of entering freshmen students. b. GED—A person 18 years of age or over may also be admitted by passing the high school level General Educational Development Test with scores specified by the College. However, in order for an 18-year-old to qualify to take the GED tests, it is necessary that (a) the high school class of which he was a member has been graduated, or (b) he has not attended high school for at least one year. It is the student's responsibility to obtain written verification of either of these conditions from his high school. c. Maturity—A person 21 years of age or over who has not completed a full high school course may be admitted if in the judgment of the Admissions Committee his preparation is adequate. If such a student wishes to graduate from Weber State College, he must meet the college entrance requirements. Credit earned prior to the satisfying of general entrance requirements may not be considered college credit. 3. Transfer Students—To be admitted to Weber State College, a transfer student from another college or university must submit the following information at least 30 days prior to registration: (1) a Weber State College application for admissions, (2) official transcripts showing all college work previously taken, and (3) evidence that he is in good standing and eligible to re-enroll at the college or university where he was most recently registered. All transfer students who have completed 15 credit hours or more will not be required to take the ACT, if the equivalent to our English 100 or English 101 is included in the 15 hours. A transfer student must give evidence of having maintained an average of 2.0 (A = 4.0, B = 3.0, C = 2.0, D = 1.0, E = 0) in his previous college work. Any exceptions to the admissions standards must be approved by the Admissions Committee. A student transferring from an accredited junior college will be accepted at Weber State with upper division standing if he presents evidence of having an associate of science or arts degree and has completed a general education program comparable to that of Weber State College. If such is not presented, an applicant may be requested to complete general requirements as outlined in this catalog. Extension or Correspondence Credit—Weber State College may accept 45 hours of extension or correspondence credit toward graduation. Transfer of extension or correspondence credit from other accredited institutions may be accepted as determined by departments. 4. Readmission of Former Students—Any time a student interrupts his continuous enrollment at WSC by not registering for one or more quarters, with the exception of summer quarter, he must apply for readmission. If a student has been out of school for less than two years, he can reapply simply by calling the Admissions Office and requesting that a registration packet be prepared for him the quarter he intends to enroll. If he has remained out of school for more than two years, he must reapply on a formal application that can be obtained from the Admissions Office. : A student who has been registered at another school since attending Weber State College is considered a transfer student and must make formal application through the Admissions Office and comply with all application requirements of a transfer student. 5. Foreign Students—Before a foreign student can be considered for admission, he must submit an application form; a health certificate signed by a licensed physician; an official transcript in English from each secondary school, college or university attended; a certificate, diploma, or government examination report received on completion of scondary school work; and 17 |
