Child Psychology—Principles of behavior modification, issues in child psychology, behavioral problems, parent-child relations, evaluation of research in child psychology. Opportunity for research with children, practical application and study are provided in the laboratory course (Psychology 313) which is to accompany this course. Psychology 101 is recommended. Prerequisite: Psychology 101. W S (3) 325. Psychology of Learning—Descriptions, concepts and problems of learning; factors related to learning efficiency. Controversial theories of learning. Prerequisite: Psychology 101. W (3) 327. Motivation—Theories and bases of motivation, research methods and measurement, emotions and motivation, cognitive processes related to motivation. Practical implications. For majors, minors, and other advanced students with a general interest. Prerequisite: Psychology 101. A (3) 340. Mental Hygiene—For teachers and workers in mental health and other social service occupations. Attitudes towards mental health, measurement, evaluation. Role, function, and coordination of various agencies. Methods of coping with stress and freeing mental processes. Prerequisite: Psychology 101. A (3) 343. Theories of Personality—A survey of the major theories of personality. Prerequisite: Psychology 101. A (5) 345. Abnormal Psychology (Psychopathology)—A review of abnormal human behavior, its etiology, symptoms and treatment. Prerequisite: Psychology 101. S (5) 356. Group Dynamics—Lecture and lab experiences pertaining to effective small group behavior. Awareness of group forces and pressures and development of insights into personal relationships. Prerequisite: Psychology 101, 154, 345 recommended. W (3) 360. Intermediate Statistics—Parametric and nonparametric methods. Sophisticated considerations of reliability, validity, and objectivity. Various methods of correlation, chi square, variance, and co-variance. Laboratory included. Required of all those in- Arts, Letters and Science — Psychology tending to go to graduate school. Advanced Experimental Psychology—An advanced lecture and laboratory course, dealing with such topics as reaction time, learning, motivation, problem-solving, vision, audition, other sensory processes, perception, and psychophysical methods. Emphasis will be placed on conducting individual experiments in the areas listed. Four lectures and one 3-hour laboratary a week. Recommended only for advanced juniors or seniors. W S (5) 371. Physiological Psychology—Sensory, neural, and motor mechanisms of behavior. Laboratory included. Chemistry, physics and zoology background helpful. Prerequisites: Psychology 101, Zoology 201. A (5) 373. Perception—Lecture course dealing with the processes by which the organism organizes, interprets and responds to the environment. Laboratory included. Prerequisite: Psychology 101. (Offered alternate years.) W (3) 400. Advanced General Psychology—Advanced treatment of learning, adjustment, emotions, reactions to frustrations, personality, perception, thinking, and sensation. Recommended for upper division students only. Prerequisite: Psychology 101. A (5) 409. History and Systems of Psychology—History of psychology. Early philosophic origins. Critical contrasts of systematic viewpoints on major psychological issues. Prerequisite: Psychology 101. (Offered alternate years.) W or S (5) 431. Introduction to Counseling and Guidance—An orientation to the work of the counselor in many local, state, and federal activities. His role in (a) educational and vocational guidance, and (b) counseling on personal problems. Limited to upper division students. Recommended: Psychology 101, 154, 260. A (3) 434. Therapeutic Psychology—Advanced study of counseling and therapy foundations, techniques, and procedures. Provides therapeutic skills for clinicians, counselors, ministers, social workers and other professionals who serve a "helping function."
