Show Business and Economics — Office Administration Business and Economics — Office Administration 311, 312, 313, and one approved upper division elective. (2) Economics 301 or 302 and 12 hours of electives taken from Economics 274 and upper division Economics courses. (3) General Business: elect from the following courses: Finance 301, 320, 330; Marketing 320, 340, 350; Management 321, 330. Mathematics 102 may be substituted for Mathematics 105, Management 101 for Management 364, and all majors are exempt from the following core requirements (unless included in the selected area concentration for a student with a basic business emphasis) Economics 250, 251, 301, or 302; Finance 320 and Management 478. Teaching Minor in Business Education—A teaching minor in Business Education is available in the area of Typewriting with Accounting, Business Machines, or Shorthand as the other area of emphasis with not less than 24 credit hours. See minor adviser for exact course listings. COURSES OF INSTRUCTION 101. Elementary Typewriting—Introduction to the keyboard for students who have never had typewriting before. Credit not given to students with one year of high school typing credit. A W S (3) 102. Intermediate Typewriting—Continuation of Office Administration 101. Review of keyboard, business letters, tabulated reports, improvement of basic skills, and intensive speed building. For those students that know the keyboard. Credit will not be given to students with two years of high school typing credit. A W S (3) 103. Advanced Typewriting—Tables, manuscripts, letters, and common business problems. Prerequisite: Office Administration 102 or an entrance speed of 45 words per minute. A W S (3) 111. Machine Shorthand—Introduction to Touch Shorthand keyboard, theory, and speed development with dictation speeds to 60 words per minute or faster. Prerequisite: Office Administration 102 or equivalent, or take concurrently. A W S (4) 112. Intermediate Machine Shorthand—Continuation of Office Administration 111. Completion of the entire shorthand theory with practice dictation. An entrance speed of at least 60 wpm. Prerequisites: Office Administration 102 and 111 or equivalent. (Formerly Machine Shorthand Continued.) A W S (4) 121. Elementary Gregg Shorthand—Introduction to theory of Gregg Shorthand system with emphasis upon reading and writing fluency. Not open for credit to students who have had six months of previous shorthand training. Prerequisite: Office Administration 101 or equivalent, or take concurrently. A W (4) 122. Intermediate Shorthand—Continuation of Office Administration 121. Use of the entire shorthand theory in practice dictation. An entrance speed of at least 50-70 words per minute is required. Not open for credit to students who have completed two years of shorthand. Prerequisite: Office Administration 121 or equivalent. A W S (4) 123. Advanced Shorthand—Stenographic shortcuts, abbreviations, phrases and transcription. An entrance speed of at least 70-90 words per minute is required. Prerequisite: Office Administration 122 or equivalent. A W S (4) 150. Business Mathematics by Calculating Machines—A study of basic business mathematics—applications in interest calculation, depreciation, payroll, proration, etc., while learning operation of ten key, rotary, and electronic calculators. A W S (4) 151. Calculating Machines—For students who do not major in either Office Administration or Business Education. Practical experience using rotary calculators, electronic calculators and ten-key printing calculators. Credit not granted for both OA 150 and OA 151. A W S (2) 301. Production Typewriting—Special communications forms, statistical reports, legal documents and business letters. Prerequisite: Office Administration 103. W S (3) 325. Business Communications—Review and application of oral and written communications including executive dictation to secretaries and machines, and the correct procedures for business report writing. Prerequisite: English 103. A W S (4) 341. Dictation and Transcription—Speed dictation with stress on fluency and accuracy of writing. An entrance speed of at least 90 words per minute is required. Prerequisites: Office Administration 123 or equivalent. W S (4) 342. Shorthand Speedbuilding—Intense dictation. An entrance speed of at least 110 words per minute is required.
