Show Technology — Sales and Retailing 00074. Secretarial Practicum and OJT Training—Practical experience in secretarial skills, actual on-the-job training as a "student secretary." (1-9) 00075. Office Machines—Practical experience in the use of dictaphone, duplicating machines and Xerox copiers. (1-9) 00076. Human Relations and Personal Development—Designed to help students develop insight into what is involved in good human relations in the office and to develop the personal qualities necessary for good human relations. (1-9) 00077. Office Simulation—Application of those basic clerical skills in a real office situation under simulated conditions. Practice in filing, handling mail, and the operation of office telephone systems. (1-9) SALES AND RETAILING OPTION The sales and retail merchandising area of Distributive Education is designed to prepare men and women for employment in various capacities in the major areas of Direct Sales and Retail Merchandising; including training for salesman, (auto, insurance, real estate, etc.); retail trade areas (salesmen, buyers, sales promoters, and advertising); mid-management areas of sales managers, buying managers, credit managers and wholesale managers. Students will supplement their work in theory with practical on-the-job training in local business establishments. Length of Program The classes will prepare the student to enter the labor force at one of three levels. 1. 2. 3. 310 Direct Sales and Retail Sales, requiring one quarter of training to be proficient. This would include areas as auto, insurance and produce sales. Advanced Sales or Operation Supervision and Management, requiring three quarters of training to be proficient. This prepares individuals to become management trainees in areas of department managers, buyers, credit and personnel, sales representatives and general areas of supervision. Store or Company Mid-Management, requiring 6 quarters to complete. This level will enable an individual to start in a firm as a management trainee. Technology — Sales and Retailing The level at which a student completes the above mentioned training will enable him to move quickly up to a better position within the food distribution industry. The training emphasizes methods and practices of supermarket operation rather than theory only.
