Taft Scores Administration Immorality, Dishonesty FARGO, N. D., Sept. 22 (UP) Senator Robert A. Taft Sunday night accused the Democratic administration in Washington of condoning all sorts of immorality if not illegality. Taft made the statement in a speech winding up his whirlwind tour of Minnesota and the Dakotas. Taft said that indications of dishonesty and immorality in government have led right up to the door of the White house. He accused the Democrats of tolerating influence peddling and referred to the case of five per center John Maragon. He said Maragon is in jail while (presidential aid) Harry Vaughan is still in the White House. The Oho Republican said the fundamental difference between Republican and Democratic beliefs is a difference in ideas of what government should be. He said the Republicans believe in the retention of liberty, as against the socialistic program of the administration. He said the government is getting so large it is no longer responsible to the will of the people Democrats believe that spending is good for its own sake, he said. The administration wants the U. S. to follow down the British road to socialism. We will never get rid of wage and price controls until the Democrats are trned out, he said. Earlier in the day, Taft took Governor Thomas E. Dewey of New York to task for the Republican defeat in 1948 and said the Republicans can win the presidency next year if they conduct the right kind of campaign.
