Show Pioneers Assured Of Shady Spot To Watch ParadeCity commissioners have given assurance that seating accommodations at a shady spot in the downtown district will be provided for original and native pioneers of the area during the main Ogden Pioneer Days parade July 24.Commissioners said the seats will be reserved for the estimated 100 men and women by police and Eagle Scout guards. The seats will probably be placed on the east side of Washington, near Twenty fifth. In making the request for com fortable accommodations, Mrs. Blanche Wilson and Mrs. William Waterstradt, representing Utah camps, Daughters of Utah Pioneers, told commissioners the pioneers last year were obliged to sit on benches strung out along Washington, between Twenty first and Twenty second. They would much rather see the parade in a shady spot downtown, because the parade entries are in better formation there, the women said. The city agreed to contribute 25 toward a gift for the area s remaining 12 original pioneers, which the D. U. P. members buy each July 24. That day commemorates the arrival of Mormon pioneers in these valleys 104 years ago. |
