Future Lies in Hard Work, Hoover Tells. YoungstersKENMORE, N. Y Oct. 10 UP Former President Herbert Hoover told youngsters Wednesday that the great jobs in the nation will go to the enterprising and self reliant and not to those who are leaners on government or searchers for security. Speaking at the dedication of the new Herbert Hoover School at Kenmore, the former president said those who will get the jobs of leaders in government education, business, farms and factories will be those who have ventured out into the battle of the competitive world. For that is the place where wits are sharpened and initiative is inspired, he said. It will be the enterprising and self reliant who will be chosen not those who are leaners on government or searchers for security. Mr. Hoover said the growth of public education in the last half century was the key to the nations strength. The future is dimmed by many gloomy shadows, he said, but there are things in the nation from which we can take satisfaction and good hope one of them is our educational system. Schools trained the minds which brought unprecedented skills in industry and the professions, he said, declaring that as a result of educational research national productivity has been increased about 300 in the last 50 years.He called the educational system a grass roots enterprise. The federal government has had no important part in its origin, its growth or in its administration, he said. I hope it never will.
